  2. Hi We are going out for lunch on xmas day this year. All restaurants and hotels have father xmas giving presents out to the kids, but wondered if anyone can recommend any other entertainment available for children included in the meal that they may know of? Play area, magician etc? Suggestions gladly welcomed. Thanks
  3. Hi, i've set up a single parent friendship group with http://www.gingerbread.org.uk. It's a voluntary group for lone parents to meet up for activities. If you're interested please see our website sheffieldgingerbread.co.uk. We're trying to organise a daytrip to Eureka, national childrens museum in halifax so please see the Events page. thanks Leigh
  4. Hi, I'm a single mum with a 2 year old little boy. I've been looking on Gingerbread.org and there's no support groups in Sheffield for single parents. Is there anybody else out there who has young children who would want to meet up, especially at weekends, with their kids and do things? I find that most parents i know, understandably like to do the "family" thing on saturdays and sundays. Even if it's a park, play centre or going swimming. thanks
  5. Can you re home Sally Anne? Sally Anne is a 12 year old female black cat with a little bit of white under her chin. She was previously a rescue cat who has been living with a very caring owner for many years. Unfortunately her owners circumstances have changed as is looking for another cat lover who is willing & able to welcome her into their home. She is extremely affectionate & loves attention. She is quite independent, eats dried food, loves being brushed. She is used to going out of the house but only tends to stay out for 10 or 15 mins in the garden (which needs to be enclosed as she’s not very street wise!) Please either call us on 07909 985 614 or email [email protected] if you are interested & we will put you in touch with Sally Anne’s owner

  8. Hi Honeyb35, The post natal period is from 7 weeks up to 12 months after delivery of your baby. How old is your baby?
  9. Hi, I teach classes for Pure Pilates in Netheredge especially for New Mums to bring their babies along to as well. The Post Natal New Mums & bring baby exercise classes are held on a Wed & Thurs morning at 10:45am for an hour. They take a maximum of 10 New Mums and you need to complete a health questionnaire beforehand and booking via http://www.SheffieldPilates.co.uk. We focus on safely regaining abdominal tone, as well as pelvic floor exercises & stretch at the end. It's a baby friendly room and no amount of crying puts the mums off from working hard! 11. Hi Beth, My response is a bit late I know (sorry!) but as a qualified fitness instructor for pre & post natal exercise, the best advice is if you're unsure is to firstly speak with the instructor & get their opinion as to whether you should exercise at that time, and secondly listen to your body. It does sound like Braxton Hicks which may make it uncomfortable to move about so my professional advice would be to avoid exercise until it eases off. Hope this helps Leigh
  12. Thanks for all your responses. I'm still hoping to hear from a Post delivery person but i'll keep searching. For information those who hail 'responsible dog owners', we have fitted an external post box at the front of our drive way, we do take the dog on his lead to and from the car, he is tethered when we're out the front of the house, he's never bitten anyone therefore doesn't need muzzling, he got free as the door inadvertently opened when my husband was outside. I try to understand other people's view points, but without Royal Mail's help, I cannot say this is a 100% fool proof strategy of avoiding another incident. I am looking to solve the cause not the symptom.
  13. Hi, We have a german shepherd dog (3 years old) and he is lovely (honestly) but he's got a real problem with our postman. He's bitten the postman's delivery bag before and yesterday he ran up to the postman and barked at him. Because of the size of the dog, this was deemed as menacing and Royal Mail have now stopped our post being delivered (and next door's post as well!). This is not our main concern. We are very responsible dog owners and he has been fully trained since a puppy and since the first incident in 2005, we employed a 1:1 dog behaviourist to avoid any further problems i.e. putting up an external post box, ensuring the dog is tied up outside if he's at the front of the house. We have approached Royal Mail but they are unable to help our dog 'befriend' the postman i.e. spending time giving him biscuits and trying to de-programme his brain. We would be happy to pay a real postman/woman of Royal Mail (we will check) to come to our house and help us re train him. He just needs to make the link with 'postman' and 'biscuits' not postman and 'threat to territory'. If this is something you would be interested in, please PM us and we can discuss payment for your time etc. We're at a loss as to what we can do! Thanks
  14. Hi Hanksy, Was just reading your thread... if you're looking for a smaller, more intimate group of women to exercise with, i run my gentle aerobic/movement classes for a maximum of 10 mums to be & New mums only. It's in Dore S17 if you're interested/able to get there?. I also run a chat forum specifically for the participants so people can get to know others in the same boat. for details, please see my website http://www.bloomingexercise.co.uk. This week after the class, some of the women have organised to have a drink afterwards (non alcoholic of course!). it's part social, part exercise... Good luck with the aqua natal classes as well, they're also really beneficial. Leigh
  15. Hi, It depends on each individual class really. You need to speak with the instructor of the class you intend to go to. Basically as an expectant mum you should avoid any kind of impact exercise i.e. where both feet lift off the floor at the same time, like jogging or jumping. Avoid overheating and avoid wide legged exercises Eg wide legged squats where your feet are wider apart than your hips. Any kind of turning may prove difficult or make you feel dizzier than you normally would do. This is friendly advice and guidance should be sought from the instructor of the class you go to. Hope all goes well for you Beth.
