  1. Probably by blaming some random islamic country and nuking it (Americans try to pin 9/11 on Iraq even though there was no evidence to support this). The actual odds of Al Qaida being able to nuke the West are about the same as Sheffield Wednesday winning the champions league ... it aint gonna happen!!
  2. More UK jobs going to be shipped abroad just to save a few quid ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/south_yorkshire/8153821.stm This shouldnt be allowed!!
  3. Were you born an ignorant SOB or did you have to work at it?
  4. EVERYONE needs to compete more for the jobs available. There's just no such thing as a "job for life" any more. Companies are using temporary / fixed term employees as opposed to recruiting full time to avoid paying for pensions etc. And thanks to Thatcher / Blair skilled well paid jobs are becoming a rarity.
  5. I would disagree ... no other thread on the forums (not least ones I start) has ever descended into an argument :0)
  6. replace "ginger" with "black" or "pakistani" and you'll see just how offensive that statement really is!!
  7. Exactly why would you not go out with someone with ginger hair if u don't mind me asking?
  8. As it happens my weekend also started crap but thats no reason why you can't enjoy the rest of it - I've had a great day today doing my voluntary work and am off for a walk and a beer tomorrow!
  9. As the title says how have you been affected, if it all, by the recession?
  10. No its pretty clear that you have no ideas / interest on how else to improve the situation for temporary workers. Do you think it is fair that: - Do you think it is fair that: - *Employment agencies skim on average about 30% of the rate paid by the company for the temp? *Temps are often barred from applying for the job they are in on a permanent basis and denied access to basic rights such as holiday pay, sick pay & pensions? The fact is the business would not be flourishing if temps were being completely ripped off.
  11. The petition is to stop employers using temps to fill permanent posts, temps to cover sick etc would still be allowed.
  12. So the best solution is to sit back and do nothing? Brilliant !!
  13. The BNP are not a political party, just a bunch of nazi thugs wanting to create in Britain what Hitler would have in the 1940's given the chance. If they ever got into power it would be bad news for everyone in this country regardless of race. I know this is a bit late coming a few days after voting closed for the European elections, but all the same I would urge people to use their protest vote to support another party e.g. The Green Party or UKIP and not waste it on these racist scum.
  14. And how do you suggest we end it? Do nothing presumably
  15. First I do not believe this is a stupid petition I believe it is a worthwhile cause - the temp market is effectively creating a two tier employment system. Any truly temporary position e.g. for a specific task, maternity / sick leave is fine - it is when companies are using temps to fill permanent positions, which undermines pay, conditions & job security for permanent staff which I am seeking to end.
  16. Exacly how would forcing companies to recruit fairly cripple small businesses? On the contrary I believe it would reward good businesses & punish bad ones.
  17. Some temp positions pay well but others do not ... last time I was a temp I was on minimum wage doing a job that usually commanded a salary of 16k a year.
  18. I hear what you are saying - what I have a problem with is employers using temps to fill permanent positions, which undermines pay, conditions & job security for full time staff.
  19. True .. and so are Sheffield Council. And may I add the Council does not keep records of how much is spent on agancy staff.
  20. Very rarely this may happen but usually this is not the case. I am not against companies who have a genuine need for a temporary position - I am against companies using temps to fill permanent positions at the expense of full time employees.
  21. I can also envisage plenty of situations when employers use temps to avoid having to pay decent terms and conditions, and to force those on full time contracts to accept lower pay.
