  1. Oooh here you go, a longer article on it... article 1200 euro it's a steal!
  2. Hi Babooshka Hey I'm not considering getting this done! geeeze...not my thing at all. Anyways yeah I think there must be a pretty high chance of blindness resulting from that...quite a gamble and not a lot of gain.
  3. Honey there's something in your eye Wow!? Who's up for it?
  4. Being half French Canadian and half English I suppose I could blame any stress on that There really isn't much tension between French and English (whoever they are) Canadians. If there is, the source of most of that tension would be political rather than racial.
  5. I didn't say Canada is a utopian society did I? I just noted that racism was much less prevelant and acceptable in Canada as compared to the UK. As for your statement it betrays an immediate prejudice simply in the way it is stated. If you would like to discuss problems in the native american communities I would be happy to.
  6. ? How's that supposed to be taken? Anyways...saw it from the tram first day the sign went up and have wanted to drop by but haven't yet. Will report back once I've had a cup from the samovar;)
  7. So if a person likes chrome fixtures in the bar because it's what the media popularizes this is a less valid preference than the person who prefers a stuffed boar's head on the wall? If someone likes 'trendy' bars so be it...why is their preference a poor choice if it happens to be influenced by advertising and the media? Who or what formed your pub preferences? Something did whether it's on MTV or not. Maybe your preference indicates a more malleable personality because you are unable to define your influences....
  8. If your question is solely one of technological progress than the answer is no...progress is not static. In the last century we have made unbelievable forward steps in scientific and tech knowledge. Remember that a century is a very small amount of time when we look at the longer span of the world's development. In recent decades tech continues to move forth in huge paces...for example look at the computer and the so-called information revolution, that is all within the last decade or so. Yes, maybe the internal combustion engine sucks but that doesn't mean we have become stagnant in innovation. In fact many alternatives to the internal combustion engine have been proposed over the last century but none have become economically viable, or popularly available for a variety of reasons.
  9. Thanks! So who ever thought up this brilliant plan?? Why put letters instead of using numbers? And why skip the I O Q U? Thanks be that 'they' have changed to numbers finally.
  10. In Canada all we go by is the model year of the car so a car would be manufactured in 1997 it would be a 1997 Ford Focus for example. So why does the UK use (A-Z) reg? What does it mean? Is there some kind of database where I can match the letter to the year? Because when I look at auto ads an M reg doesn't mean anything to me.
  11. I'm not anywhere near a evolutionary theorist but this idea that our toes are shrinking because we don't use them enough is not what evolution is. A basic definition... Biology. Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species Our toes don't shrink over time because they are not used enough, our bodies don't have some kind of programming that says 'hey I haven't used my toes in 10 years I'll just let them drop off and give my kids smaller ones"
  12. Sacrilege! Leave the iPod mini alone. I offer up for slaughter the craptastic muvo2: How-to get a 4GB for less than £200
  13. haha you think I would fall for this flimsy ruse?! Everyone listen...don't tell...'they' will only use it against you...
  14. To quote everybody's favorite foot wrapper "just do it". Honestly. Solo travel is the simplest purest best form of travel...it is the ultimate selfish indulgence. Do what you want when you want. Beyond that it will force you to grow as you won't have anyone to help you along in a strange place. That being said I think you will find that you are rarely alone. I have travelled in ~50 countries for up to six month stretches mostly solo and have rarely been 'by myself'. Put yourself in places and situations where you will meet others. And don't let people who say "ooooh you can't go by yourself that's too dangerous etc." discourage you. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help you out with them...
  15. This is exactly what evolution is not.
  16. Personally I think the shop isn't standing up for you...they don't sound like a place I would be returning to for service. I had an Ericsson phone that was in my bag along with a thermos of iced tea with a cap not screwed on properly...you can figure out the rest. I took it right back to the store told them what happened and they gave me a brand new phone 2 days later. So the moral of the story is...I don't know that they are obligated to help you out but hey a good store would go to bat for you.
  17. As Mr. Faulkner once wrote and Jason said... "No offense," I says. "I give every man his due, regardless of religion or anything else. I have nothing against jews as an individual," I says. "It's just the race. (...)" Sound and the Fury, pg. 237. This kind of hypocrisy has been around a long time and the rationale is certainly not something new. Personally, coming from Canada, the common and everyday racist and classist attitudes displayed by many people in the UK is shocking. I know the socio-economical situation is a lot different as well as the history but if a person is willing to cling to the idea that society can move forward and improve itself the UK is 40 years behind Canada.
  18. This thread makes no sense:loopy: Why are you complaining about packed pubs/clubs? That means there are loads of people out and about...why are you going out if you don't want to be with other people? If you invite your mates over to your flat I'm sure there will be no queue for the bar. So on one hand we have all these threads complaining about the boring bars and nightlife and then on the other hand we have people complaining that they are too full? Seems like the one thing people in Sheffield are good at is complaining.
  19. Thinking about moving city centre later this year... Does anyone know the size of the apartments in West One...specifically the one bedrooms and the studios. And what the heck is a Ucube???? It is a studio I imagine, but how small is it that they thought Ucube was a good name?
