  1. IIRC means "If I Remember Correctly" which, given the original post, is somewhat ironic. Unless you're less than 4 years old.
  2. I remember terry towelling nappies, but I'm sure that as with all things, some people are old fashioned and even today, there are probably babies being raised in Terry towelling. Indeed, Mothercare have a pack of 5 available on their website for £11.99. Terry towel, reusable nappies. You can even buy a pail in which to soak used Terry towel nappies, prior to washing.
  3. In answer to the very simple OP's question, Yes it IS going to snow.
  4. The national anthem being played when BBC1 "shut down" every night Meadowhall opening and the news reports that "it would lead to the city centre becoming a ghost town" When wearing seatbelts was optional When public telephones took 2p or 10p coins and you dialled the number using a dial One word - decimalisation Tufty and the Green Cross Code Green Shield stamps
  5. Ooh, just checked their website, it's not long to the next one. 17th April. It doesn't make exactly clear whether it's steam hauled, but I do know for a fact that the last time they came (about October / November), it was steam hauled. After dropping everyone off at Chesterfield (they then go to Chatsworth by coach), they took the steam engine up to Barrow Hill to fill up the water tanks. Whilst they were filling up, another diesel broke down on the mainline just below Barrrow Hill, so they couldn't get the steam train back down to Chesterfield. They managed it, just in the nick of time, but another ten minutes and the passengers would have been having a 5 course dinner on half a dozen coaches mwaaah!
  6. "Madness LIVE" = a CD given away free with a Sunday newspaper - sooo good! And Scala & Kolacny Brothers. They did the title music for Downton Abbey. There's loads more of them on You Tube.
  7. Windows 8 is intended to be great for tablets without a physical keyboard or mouse. However, on the laptop which I bought a couple of week ago, it is dire. I downgraded. I tried both XP and Vista, with either of those, the laptop absolutely flies! I settled on Vista though as it's a 64 bit version, takes advantage of the full 4GB of RAM and with that much RAM & the service packs installed, it is actually a stable operating system. And of course, I can now actually turn off my laptop!
  8. alpinesoft make software which is simpler to use than audacity as it's custom designed for the job. Not free though. For free software, just google "lp to mp3 freeware" and then take your pick! Should work with any USB turntable, but do check first!
  9. In very simple terms, there's some clever jiggery-pokery going on which means that each core is being made to work harder. For many reasons, a single core seldom uses it's total capacity and spends a fair amount of time "on tickover" doing nothing. This "tickover" time is used to do other things inbetween. But to acheive that, Windows is conned into believing that each core is actually two seperaste cores. Started with the Pentium 4 processors which were identified ad "hyper threading". Don't worry, it's all good. My 4 year old Samsung netbook with a weedy 1.6 Atom CPU is hyper threading enabled and for practical purposes using Lightroom 4 & Photoshop CS6 is as fast as my brand new laptop which doesn't have hyperthreading on it's dual cored B830. Basically, you got a speed machine there - that rig should make mincemeat of just about anything you could throw at it!
  10. The Orient Express travels up to Chesterfield a few times a year, bringing people for a champagne day trip to Chatsworth. iirc, it's pulled by steam, with a diesel at the back in case it breaks down.
