Ive been to various websites reading about castle market .One on "nothing to see here" told me a lot about why sheffields architecture ended up as it is.Womersley was hired by sheffield council in 1952 to design socialist,modernist buildings for sheffield.This explains why so many buildings in sheffield were so similar in design including schools and blocks of flats.This is my problem, i have a real hatred of modern art ,i just dont get the wierd designs of it with everything looking abstract and not symmetrical .Ive been to graves art gallery and just ended up laughing.I paint and draw myself but i do landscapes.Sorry im not going to be convinced its worth saving, i would rather see a few old stones as some have described them has they cant be any worse.Its just my opinion, i dont get the keeping it because its a working class symbol ,and i thought i was working class but now im not sure.Anyhow none of this is relevant now, has english heritage says the building was "not notable"did not use high quality materials and was not of artistic interest and was why it was denied listing.End of story it will be demolished.

Are you being serious, park hill.The other things you mention are ok wish they would finish the top of the velocity tower,looks daft with steel rods stuck out of the top.Happen to think the best modern building is the stainless steel half circular building at shalesmoor and the best old building the town hall.St pauls tower is a joke,compared to bridgewater place in leeds.Really like the winter gardens and lyceum as well.

Both ,were not good at preserving old buildings.We carried on doing what the luftwaffe missed.

Born and bred in sheffield, mostly lived in the rural outskirts and the surrounding countryside cant be faulted.One of the problems ive always found with the city centre is that it never seems to be finished.Constant building work and boarded up buildings.The centre struggles to blend together into a shopping experience with one long road from the bottom of the moor to the castle market.Other citys and towns have the advantage of all the shops together in a contained area.I believe this is what sevenstone is being built for.This is why meadowhall is popular because its all together on a flat area.Sheffield being slagged off all the time doesnt help encourage visitors either.

What is it that you like about 60s buildings that a lot of us just dont see.They were cheap buildings ,that were not expected to last.Pioneered after the war when people were homeless,not much thought went into design which is understandable in the circunstances ,the moor being a perfect example.Im all for preserving victorian,edwardian,georgian buildings they have style and charachter and are worth saving.

It cant be rebuilt has there are no drawings of what the castle looked like .Earlier post got a bit carried away.

Why do you assume they wont be interested,i look at other countries ancient sites when i go on holiday and its not my history is it,millions of people do the same when they are on holiday.

Personally i think if you set off driving, worrying if you or anybody else could be killed, you shouldnt be driving.

Difficult to tell, i knew one councillor who really did care and was doing it for the right reasons.Some use it as a step up to becoming an mp.He was an independent so wasnt tied to any party,possibly the most trustworthy ones.

Ive got a few mates who live on southey and theyve had wheels pinched and things done to there cars .I had mine damaged while visiting my parents 10 years ago.I dont think its personal, your gates probably in bramalls scrap pile now.
