  1. I will need to kennel my dogs soon, and would love reccomendations for kennels where they can be housed together, i have 3 lurchers. Thanks
  2. Pet Grub on Holme Lane do large beds with removable covers, though its worth phoning in advance to check. Failing that, theres a couple on ebay that arent too steep, i just paid £30 for a 4ft x 4ft bed with removable covers
  3. Ditto this, i have read rave revies of kitty&dulcie and have seen lots of recommendations for honeypie. I am a 2015 bride and am going for a similar thing, i haven't yet found a dress in the shops and may be venturing online, unless i can find an excuse to pop to London to see cutting edge brides or fairy goth mother! Good luck with the search and let us know how you get on with the online experience
  4. I ventured to the market this weekend, having been a patron of the old markets since i became responsible for myself, learing the places to go from my parents and grandparents. the only real issues i have with the place are its set up seems chaotic, not enougj space to pass people by (kinda like shopping in primark with a bunch of pram pushers) and the heat - oh the heat, how is anything perishable going to fare in those temperatures? I walked out after 25 minuts sweating! It was not a pleasurable visit, and i certainly think my future visits we be necessitiy driven!
  5. To answer the (old) OP's question YES! I used Springfield up until 2 years ago, when my boy had KC the costs for a consult and 2 weeks of antibiotics was just over £100. I switched to Alan at Beech House just after this, when one of my foster dogs needed a complex castration (retained testes). Springfield quoted a minimum charge of £280 but could not give a capped limit, so conscious of the limited funds rescues have i called around. All the "company" vets prices were in the same region, Peak were cheaper but a little out of my way, and Alan was cheaper still and closer! My puppy had a water infection this week, consult and a week of antibiotics came to less than £25, you cant see a vet for that money in these "company" places and the service isn't exactly the best either, they tend to have such a fast turnaround of staff!
  6. Hiya, I think this was a white staffy bitch, possibly with patches. In spring street pound now.
  7. We did most of this ourselves, we had the electric and gas moved onto the external wall by the gas and electricity supplier and the demolition we dis ourselves. We had the pantry door studded and the rear walls re-plastered, we had electrics moved by a qualified electrician with testing certs etc, the only issue we came across was the kitchen floor was timber joist and boards and the porch, pantry and toilet were poured concrete. A decent general builder would be able to do most of the work, the biggest cost will be the gas and electric moves.
  8. :love:Today's Loca pic! https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=211438285689385&set=a.206981662801714.1073741896.124258684407346&type=1&theater Elizabeth, that is Ben, he is a lovely boy too, they have names and colour coded ribbons so their facebook followers can distinguish them
  9. We have a similar thing with our youngest lurcher, he is scared of the dark, and of loud noises so this time of year is a real test for him. We have just purchased a Thundershirt, it seems so far to be reducing his fear of the dark, he seems a lot more calm, but the fireworks still get to him. I have tried calmex, sculcap &valerian tablets and one of those firework CD's, all to no avail. I have just been looking at rescue remedies, the liquid drops, so that i can get this down him without too much trauma (he does't do tablets!), but failing that, im afraid it will be a case of riding it out until the fireworks die down again, and starting again at xmas/new year! Let me know if you find anything that works!
  10. :love:We've wanted a black and white for a few years, i cannot wait to post updates once she is home, but in the mean while, hounds first post almost daily picture updates to each puppies album
  11. How about a difficult yorkie who needs to learn grroming is a nice experience?
  12. The very spotty one is Spot (original i know) and the other one is my girl Loca. We think mum had 2 matings, as they are totally different in colour, but only time will tell if these two turn out different to the rest i guess! The updates on the facebook page are fantastic, the videos make me smile, they are all fast becoming a handful!
  13. We are expanding our crazy lurchers........ adding to the mix a puppy. Her mum was saved from death row by Hounds First Sighthound Rescue, and once collected, it became aparent she was pregnant - quick trip to the vets, who advised she was too far gone to terminate, a week and a bit of waiting, and 10 adorable pups Link to pics - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.206981662801714.1073741896.124258684407346&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=206981702801710&set=a.206981662801714.1073741896.124258684407346&type=3&theater She is proving to be a tinker already! No idea as to her paternal breeding, so all suggestions welcome. She will be coming to us at about 10 weeks, in early November, i cannot wait!!!
  14. Any whippy x would be a start, maybe a whip x terrier if you like them scruffy. Deffo look through the pages suggested, if you find one and struggle for a home checker, im sure the rescues i work with will pass my details on so that i could home check on their behalf. Check out hounds first on facebook, the litter of saluki x pups have almost taken over their news feed, Loca is coming to Sheffield to live with our pack. We have no idea of their breeding, i cant wait for them to open their eyes and start to grow a little so we can start playing "guess my daddy" hehe
  15. I would also suggest ignoring the "not smae breed" advice, i have 2 lurchers (whip cross, and grey cross) and a yorkie. the yorkie rools the roost without any doubts. We also foster for 2 sighthound charities (Scruples Whippet Rescue & Hounds First Sighthound Rescue) and know that both have young dogs in foster situations at the moment. Fostered dogs are much easier to assess too, and both rescues provide life long back up, and most fosterers will happily do meetings prior to adoption. If ted is slightly giddy (obviously an age thing) a very old dog 8+ might not be good, but i wouldnt restrict yourself on age too. Sighthounds love sighthound company, especialy when running, i would certainly consider another one (i already have another one lined up!) Try lurcher link, tia greyhounds, greyhound gap, lozzas lurchers as a starting point, i guarantee you'll fall in love
  16. I cant really help with space for the older kits, but i do have a small (2.5ft) cat tree that is waiting to be put to good use. It isn't in perfect condition, the fur coverting has 2 small rips, but my cats still prefer it to the new one! Its here if needed x
  17. The cross burgess st site closed a while ago, i would assume they are in another government office, but they are not a customer facing team, they are a satellite team working locally. I doubt they would see people face to face.
  18. Woodhill Grange has a fantastic activities co-ordinator, and they have a second home opening next door very soon i believe.
  19. Hi, We too are looking for 2015, i have looked at cannon hall, they are quite steep in terms of venue hire, and if i remember rightly they have preferred suppliers too. I have had a look at Green Directions, they are in Stannington and are simply a venue where you hire in a marquee and do your own thing. I haven't looked much beyond that (other than the places you have mentioned) in too much detail, but i am waiting on viewing appointments for the millenuim galleries, weston park museum and kelham island, not sure of their policies yet, but it might be worth a shot? Good luck
  20. I have an XL cage, not in the most perfect condition but it works when settling in foster dogs, depending on your car it may not fit in! Failing that i have a boot guard?
  21. Times like this make me wish there was a :thumbsup:like:thumbsup: button!
  22. I am hoping the speeches will be over relatively quickly, neither myself or my partner enjoy the limelight. I think realistically 4 hours for ceremony, photographs and food should do us, but i am open to all suggestions at this point. I want it to be our day, so once we are hapy with the venue, we will probably look at the finer points, my OH likes the idea of totally bypassing the sit down meal, but i would like it, and neither of us likes speeches, but i know my dad will want to say something Please keep the advice coming, i have a massive file almost half full already of the suggestions!
  23. I like the idea of 3pm, it gives me time to get all the emotions out and calm down a little. The venue choices are goverened by numbers, the ability to adapt menus to suit us and the ability to tie a venues decor into our desired theme, whilst the Old Rectory is more modern than most inside, i have seen some fabulous pictures of it dressed just right. We are starting to visit venues from the end of this month, and have added Crow Hill to the list now too. I will be one of those brides to be that attends every wedding fayre going from this point on!
  24. Thats what my fear was, but i have no real ideas of timing, being a wedding novice I would like to time everything in to fit around the evening guests arriving from 7pm. Ideally i want; Guests to arrive Civil Ceremony Photographs Breakfast Social time (possible bouncy castle arrival) Evening guests But there may be other things i am missing here, i simply do not know! I am hoping to have an area set aside for the children, a creative room/sweetie emporium (parents may not thank us for this) to keep them entertained during the early part of the day, there will be approximately 15 of them for the duration with another 10+ for the evening!
