Twin Oaks is on Saturday afternoon... I was the same about weekend lie ins until I had kids & once they've woken you up at 5am cos it's light so early, you may as well get out of the house. The earliest I've ever been to a car boot is about 7am though. I can't imagine getting there at the crack of dawn.

RozeePozee replied to RozeePozee's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Not yet, but dont let that stop you coming. There were nine sets of twins at the first meet. Maybe see you there next week? -
This morning at St Augustines on Brocco Bank. Short notice, but I think it's gonna be weekly. Starts at 10am til 11.30am, for non walking twins at mo as space is limited.

This sounds interesting. We may be up for it. Anyone else with small children? -
Ha ha! Thanks for that. I'll delete. As for a virgin seller, I've seem plenty electrical items at car boots. If you're selling battery operated things, it's always good to be able to be shown that they work, so take some batteries along perhaps? Personally, from a buyers point of view, I'm a bit put off prices on things, unless they're very cheap! But I think so long as the price is negotiable, you should be okay. If you have a big jumble of stuff, I think it's always better to sort things out. I don't want to dig through hundreds of kids clothes of different sizes when I@m only looking for 2-3 year olds and, unless I'm feeling very unharrassed, tend to avoid the stalls where I have to rummage too much. Personal opinion only though so I'm sure others probably take a different stance.

@JaKs I tried to give feedback in a PM but I'm limited to how much I can write so I hope you don't mind me posting here: I'm no expert on these issues. What is good or not at a car boot sale is very subjective too: I was looking for girls clothes aged 2 years, and there just weren't that many selling this kind of stuff. I personally thought the parking was extremely well organised and there was loads of space but it was incredibly difficult to get to the stalls and, because it wasn't organized in rows, some stalls were massive, with loads of stuff laid out on tarps. (Think they took advantage of your good nature, most car boots are quite strict about the amount of space you can use I think). This seemed to lead to major traffic jams around certain stalls and deep queues of customers. I did hear quite a few exasperated people huffing and puffing about not being able to get to the stalls or getting stuck in a jam. It was a bit of a mare for wheelchair users and prams (I have a double buggy!) Again, just a personal opionion but I think the lay out could be improved. I think a poster suggested the traditional rows create shallower queues which would seem to make sense to me. A bit like cordons for the queues at the cinema. Also, prevents dealers/sellers from taking advantage and having huge sprawling stands over a load of tarpaulins which are actually quite difficult for customers to get to. I was bothered more by some of your sellers who were clearly people who rarely if ever had attended a car boot sale and were expecting unreasonably high prices for items, for example £5 for something I'd consider the going rate to be 50p!!! Amusing to start with but then a bit frustrating. Nevertheless, I'm sure there would be the equivalent novice buyer who would be willing to pay these prices, so maybe they're not so daft As for the 0500 turn ups, I very much suspect they'd be dealers. Plenty people who make a living getting to car boot sales almost at the dead of night and picking up the supremely saleable items from stallholders (who don't know any better) for a few pence and then reselling them at a hugely inflated price on ebay, in their own shops, at specialist markets, or sometimes just later at the same car boot! It's not just the obvious stuff either. For example, you can buy a spiderman outfit for 50p at a car boot and on a good day sell it for £15 on ebay. Quite a profit margin that. Sorry for the essay. Hope this is taken as constructive feedback. What do others on here think? I'll update the first post and good luck with the next one. I'll be there!

I'm sort of pleased there's only one error I can't take responsibility for what's in the post, although I try to update it as much as I possibly can. It's not "my" list, it's a collective effort. All I do is collate information people provide and put it into one post to save people reading the entire thread. I don't know how I can make it clearer than the first post saying in the first paragraph: I'll delete the Barlborough info. I've never had any contact info for it, unfortunately. Can I ask for again please if people have any info on this season's car boots, to let me know in a PM. Thanks

I wasn't terribly impressed either but we came away with a few bits. Last time it was good, so you never can tell. Worst thing about one off car boot sales is that sellers don't know the going rate for things and expect to charge ebay prices! Some stallholders asking for £5 for an item of clothing (a dirty one at that!) As for Bowshaw, the down side of charging only £1 to stand is that there seemed to be lots of people selling complete tat there too. If you have to make back £8 or £10 for your stand price before you're even in profit, you have to bring something that'll make decent prices along with you. Or is the quality of stuff going down at car boots? I suspect people may be getting rid of their rubbish at the car boot after selling all their "good" stuff on ebay..? Let's hope things improve as the season progresses.

That's not called running, that's called sex, or chocolate! I'm in week 6 now. Like you, I don't think I'll ever run a marathon. Initially, my long runs resembled a very fast walk, rather than something you could describe as a run! I live near Endcliffe Park and my goal is to be able to run to Forge Dam and back before breakfast. Every run, I get that little bit closer.

I think the OP meant "haggle" but the non-pedants amongst us were willing to go with the spirit of the post, rather than score a point. We now all think you are very... clever
