  1. Apparently there is a car boot sale at lydgate junior school, Manchester road tomorrow 26th March. Starts 10.00 - 12.00. Admission is 50p for adults and 20p for children. In aid of the year 6 children who are trying to raise money for their residential. [with thanks to EDtheRED03]
  2. Am I going blind or is there no time specified for this? I think it's 11am for NCT members and 11.15am for everyone else
  3. Don't depress me. I'm 42, though I don't look a day over 30 And I think my OH has already gone down the orthotics route. They are in a box somewhere............
  4. Thanks for all your posts. I perhaps over egged the amount to which my knees hurt. I was getting twinges but, as PPs rightly point out, wrecked knees aren't a good idea so I either want to sort it or choose another form of exercise. I went out today and had no problems and that was just by being a bit mindful and less "sloppy" for want of a better word about how I ran. Will check out Accelerate & the other place in attercliffe. Consider the price of a pair of shoes better than an injury or worse still. Isn't it lovely weather for running? I'm surprising myself by really enjoying it. I run through Whitely Woods. Is it better to run on the soil paths rather than Tarmac?
  5. I may be able to help now the babies are a bit older. If you want to, PM me your number and we can talk about it.
  6. East West is looking like a real contender http://www.eastnwest.net/
  7. Have just seen posters advertising Beauchief scout group jumble sale April 2nd at 10-12 in the church hall. At least I think that was the date! I was driving past and couldn't make a note of it til I got home. If anyone else can confirm this, that would be great. I'll then add it to the main post
  8. What? If the organisers themselves don't know when their car boot starts, how am I supposed to? Thanks for all the replies folks. The first post is updated as best I can on the info I've been given. If you spot any errors, please pm me. RP x
  9. someone else said Marsh Lane opens 3rd April. I wish they'd make their minds up! The other is Bowshaw, I presume. I've amended the first post. I've just texted the organisers of Twin Oaks and that reopens on 2nd April Can I please stress that people to check the first post to confirm that a car boot is on and the exact location before they leave the house? Where they're given, I provide contact details. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about the start up dates and venues at the moment and a few people have had wasted journeys which is a shame.
  10. Apparently, Bakewell is now 50p, so I've been advised. And I thought inflation was only at 4%!
  11. Perhaps it's a little unfair to direct all our ire about charges at the Sheffield Arena organisers. There are existing car boots that charge, such as Bakewell & Twin Oaks. I suppose if the events are well organised with good info and services such as website & Facebook page, I might object less. Most importantly I'd say is good access to the site, parking & good quality stalls. There's nothing more disheartening to go to a boot sale & find it teeming with dealers, especially those who turn up week after week selling the same, very jaded secondhand goods that have obviously had too much wear out of them already.
  12. Thanks, Ady. I'll add the links & Facebook info when I get chance to get on my computer as it's too complicated to attempt it on my phone. I'm sure there are plenty people out there who won't mind the entrance fee. It's a personal thing, I hate being charged for parking too
  13. Ah well, I'll live. Am pleased to report all my babies survived
  14. I'm doing a "couch to 5km" coaching programme on my phone and am really enjoying it having never done any running before. I'm off the couch, 3 weeks in and my knees have started hurting when I run for more than a couple of minutes. I've heard some specialist running shops do a gait analysis before advising on appropriate shoes. Does anyone know of such a shop please?
  15. I went to this last year and I'm sorry to say it was very poor. There were hardly any stalls and some that were there were poorly equipped. I was pregnant with twins and hoping to see some double buggies demoed but there were none, not one! A great disappointment and waste of a Sunday morning.
  16. Leslie Dike who was working from Kenwood Park when I saw her last. She's also an excellent yoga teacher. Very bendy
  17. Call me a tight arse (I'd view it as a compliment, anyway ) but, unless I hear it's outstanding, I for one will not be driving out to Sheffield Arena when I can go more locally and not be charged entrance. It's total rubbish that there are no regular Sheffield car boots! There's Paces, Hillsborough & Tesco's that are accessible by public transport & enough interesting one offs in season to make it unlikely for there to be a car boot free weekend anytime from April through September. I don't actually mind paying an entrance fee where it's a school or church event, say. It's when you get commercial enterprises trying to squeeze every last pip out of people. Grrr....
  18. I can't believe it's been two or three years that I've been posting this thread. I didn't realise how long it would become when I started! I'm so pleased people find it useful. Thing is, I'm planning to leave Sheffield this year and move to the West Wales coast, so I'll no longer be car booting in these parts Does anyone fancy taking over the updating of this thread? It doesn't take much now all the info is up there. I usually just update weekly and then there might be a bit more to do at the beginning & end of the season as lots of car boots start up or stop and there's a bit more updating involved.
  19. I almost did. My poor little boy was desperate for a car boot sale (is it nature or nurture?) after his disappointment that yesterday's sale at St Thomas' church had no toys. As he was poorly, we couldn't go. I do stress that people need to give as much info as possible when advertising sales. An address is pretty basic as requirements go.... Thanks for your feedback about the thread Bob.
  20. I agree. The space is totally unsuitable. They wouldn't let people take their prams in. How ridiculous is that? And buyers were refused access to the toilets. Fortunately, I left my twins at home and took my 4 yr old only. If I had taken them, I wouldn't have been able to go in unless I'd been willing to leave the babes outside! Also, the sale is split in two due to the layout of the building: clothes, shoes & accessories one side; equipment the other. You have to choose which side you want. Very frustrating for me, the avid bargain hunter! Having said all this there were some great bargains, so worth it all the same.
  21. When I was a teenager, I used to breed rats. One litter had 19 babies and I was told the largest litter recorded was 18. I never followed this up... Teenage apathy
  22. The Ranmoor Tandoori. Thanks for all the replies. I'm not a great fan of Balti King but I've a few options now.
  23. That link looks useful. Unfortunately the info about Marsh Lane is wrong. It def isn't on all year round. You can contact the organisers by phone. The number is listed on the first post.
