Super Hans
Heirtrace are reputable I think so, I don't think it will be a scam. But proceed with caution, just don't do anything stupid like give up bank details.

WallBuilder
I'ma suspicious so and so , I'd contact sun life and ask for clarification. I'd also find a phone number independntly rather than ringing any numbers that may be on the form just to be safe

simonj
Sun Life must have been auditing things. I got a letter from them a few months back about a policy my late father had and apparently they had not paid out fully on it. I was suspicious at first but turned out they traced me through my late mother and confirmed everything in writing without asking for bank details. Received a cheque within a few weeks ... and it cleared As long as you're careful and don't supply any banking details you should avoid getting scammed. If they're offering you money make sure it's a cheque.
geared
Google the company name, if you get some decent feedback then contact that company directly using the number on their website. Don't reply to any e-mails or phone any number in the e-mail as it might be a scammer pretending to be a reputable company. Hopefully it is true tho and you've got a nice little windfall coming
