Yea basically. We don't hold a by-election when an MP gets the whip removed, or gets kicked out of the party (which has happened recently in Sheffield don't forget) It's when the person everyone voted for leaves, that triggers a by-election.

You vote for the person not the party, so a by-election is not required.
