Sony A100 hot shoe

I'm wanting a flash for my Sony A100 and because there are only 2 models avaliable and they are both quite expensive I thought I'd look at Minolta on e-bay. Does anyone know if the hot shoe fitting on Minolta dynax 7000i (or other dynax models) is the same as on the Sony?

Why Sony can't use a standard hot shoe is beyond me, I have a very good flash and a fairly good hammer but I can't use either of them.

Are you saying that the Sony has a non-standard hot-shoe fitting? Otherwise you should be good with any external flash, just check that the voltages are ok and remember that you might not get all the features on an off-brand flash.

buy a hotshoe adapter. Sony alpha - Minolta will cost you about £7 on ebay. That way you can use your old flash and save yourself £150 on a new one. I have the Alpha and its a good camera but it does seem to favour expensive proprietory kit. This is something i try to avoid because if you want to change models you have to change all of your kit.

Good thinking Cuey, I'll look into that, do these adapters have a socket to plug the hammer into because as you know the Sony doesn't. and I put batteries in my other flash and it doesn't work any more.

Minolta (and now sony) use a propriatry(sp?) hot shoe.

 

You can get adapters for ISO hot shoe flashes quite cheaply and the same if you require a PC-sync socket.

Incidently, I have the Sony 56 flash and I love it!

It's not cheap, but it's lovely
