Suave
Anyone know where I can buy Pampas grass in Sheffield? I'm after a mature plant (not seedling) as I need to put it on a steep slope to stop soil falling down on to the driveway. Apparently they have good roots and hold soil in its place
fox20thc
Not sure but I have some rampant bamboo if you need some.
Mathom
Hey Suave, you ought to read my thread about What not to have in your garden. According to the Daily Heil, Pampas Grass is 'out'. Personally, I like it.
Jabberwocky
We one three huge patch and two smaller ones in our garden, the smallest is about a foot tall but will grow rapidly. If you lived near to me Id be more than happy to slice the biggest one in half for you and let you have the smaller one. Trouble is Im miles away. I got the smallest one last year from Focus, they sell them in Wilkinsons too so you might have some luck there.
Jabberwocky
Zebra grass is good for knitting soil together by the way, I use it and its good stuff.
Suave
Thanks for all your replies If I do buy a pampas grass seedling, how long will it take for it to grow to 1m or to its full height? And are they fast growing?
SaveUK
not long it grows at a fast rate from what i can remember from our garden when i was kid,,, even when the dog was humpping it....... true story!!
Jabberwocky
Its hard to grow from seedling I understand. The grass we have started off at about 6 inches tall and took a year or so to get to about 6 feet. Thats including the seed stalks.

Strix
They also suffer badly in the wind, so if you live in sheffield they may not be the plant for you
