A number of us contacted "101" and the local PCSO team came out and issued warnings to the offending owners. There are shops & businesses that people would like to visit in their cars, but there's no parking near. Taxis for the clubs have to jump up onto the pavement, it creates chaos, but it's all down to bad design, wasting space because the council hate cars. Want to buy something from 'sandwich short of a picnic' & take your car? Tough, you're walking for half a mile, parking illegally or abusing KFC car park. Slight exaggeration yes, but there could be more parking on City Road, it was done badly when they put the tram in. There are big wide pavements, with a series of posts every few yards for the tram wires, so the pavements that people park on there can't really be used anyway, the remaining pavement is big enough for even the biggest pushchair. The lack of close & convenient parking deters some people from using some of those shops. I'm sure it's a very nice sandwich shop, but I've never been in, they're always blocked in by a crossing, bus stop, the tram & other people illegally parked on the pavement. SportsTrophy Posted January 26, 2013 Share Posted January 26, 2013 The recent snow has highlighted this problem again with many paths not passable or unclearable due to possible damage to parked vehicles. People have taken to walking on the snowy road in the tracks of cars. When meeting a pedestrian who is walking in the road who has right of way, the pedestrian or the car? 1fish2fish56 Posted January 26, 2013 Share Posted January 26, 2013 Round here it's not so much how they park their cars but the piles of snow they create when clearing their drives. Last year one person down our road created two snow walls either side of his drive - right from the road to his property, completely blocking the pavement.
