Nasty Staffy, again in Hillsborough.

[quote=SUPERTYKEThe point here is that dogs should be allowed to socialise from puppyhood. dogs on leads feel vulnerable and unable to defend themselves, they can't adopt the body language that is non threatening or any other body language.

It is nervous owners who cause most conflict between dogs. Most dog fights are all noise and show - a test of strength. ( unless the dog is crazy) for it is in neither dogs' interest to injure or be injured. (1st law of nature)

Point is , learn about dogs before getting one, - read the owners manual, you might find there is more in there to read than you imagined.

Did you miss the bit where I said she was attacked by two golden retrievers? On her lead and they saw her from 50yards and attacked. She was 6 months old and had been going regularly to puppy classes and has been since to several adult dog classes. She was then again attacked by an akita - she was on her lead the other dog approached from a distance. So yes she's very wary of other dogs while on her lead. But it has escalated and is now wary of dogs when off the lead too and has been known to get in first so to speak. As a responsible dog owner I believe it is better that she is kept on her lead when other dogs are around. That way she can't attack them unless they approach. Or do you suggest I let her loose to do whatever?

I think you are being very responsible by keeping your dog on a lead, for the safety of others and that of your dog. At least that way your dog cant 'get in first' as you put it to another dog and you are keeping it away from other dogs for its own safety aswell.

Your a wise dog owner my friend.

chav like people who live on the parson cross estate

Have you seen how many of these houses are bought???? whats with the downer on council housing and the "type" of people who live in them and the type of dog they own? I live not far from there IN A COUNCIL HOUSE and i rarely see staffies around . Akitas and labs are popular as are yorkies but not many staffs. To say you can put down the estate you must spend a lot of time in it to (not) know what type of dog people own so it can't be that bad can it!!

Every dog has a reputation, many of them bad, but any dog can turn if provoked or ill trained. Besides do you get on with every single human that you meet? Is there nobody that you'd rather spend less time with or feel a little weary of when walking down the street? Are dogs supposed to love every single dog they meet regardless of size or breed???

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience but i think you need to chill out a little!!

and,you are superior to this gentleman because you live in suburbia??? Have you ever lived on a council estate? I think your flippant remark to a man who you could do with showing some respect to,is disgusting. It just goes to show that living somewhere 'nice' does not automatically mean you are a decent, polite person.Quite the opposite in fact....

Just to say the post from mackie69 wasn't from him but from me, didn't realise he was signed in!!

I have met many people who believe themselves to be middle class that haven't a clue about respect and do nothing to help anyone but themselves. Many of them just forget where they actually came from!!!

You contradict yourself over and over again  let me just get this right...Floyd77 is a responsible dog owner and 'your friend' whilst the 'chav' scum who MUST live on a council estate,is not? Yet,BOTH have dogs that they keep on a lead. Whats the difference then?? All it shows is that you are stuck up and judgemental?

I would say that putting everyone on council estates into the same pigeon-hole is either ignorant, or a blatant wind up. Neither of which shows the class of someone who would consider themselves "educated".

Yes there is plenty of bad where i live, but there is plenty of good too. I have friends who live in places some might consider to be middle class, and my experience of those places is that they all live in their ivory towers and seldom mix with each other. Maybe thats me being judgemental, but i'm not the one pretending to be perfect and above anyone else.

But given my experiences, i know where I'd rather be

You can't tar everyone with the same brush!

I have a Staffy and I don't live on a council estate, drink cider outside of Somerset, or wear all that goddamn tracksuit stuff either.

Plus, my dog has never attacked anything or anyone. She gets on with young children and cats and anything else with a pulse.

The personality of a dog depends on how you raise it. If you beat it everyday and praise it when it attacks others then of course it will be mentally screwed and nasty! :(

I also don't believe that the dog's breed affects how it acts. I've know Labradors to be demons, so its all a bunch of poo if you ask me!!
