Gillotts in Heeley

Recommended Posts

:?:

What a delight to stumble across this forum whilst surfing the net!

Though I don’t live in Sheffield now, I was born and bred in Heeley.

I suppose it’s changed a great deal since the 50’s and 60’s.

Is the old Heeley Picture Palace still there? Ann’s Road School?

or the Waggon & Horses?

Does Carter Road still exist, with the two-up-two-down terraced houses,

where I used to live?

Does anyone remember or know of any Gillotts who lived in Heeley?

Researching my family history, it seems that the Gillotts have been established

in Heeley since the 17th century.

I’d be delighted with any snippets of information that anyone has!

I used to be best friends with a kid called David Gillott in the 80's when we were 8 or 9 years old. He lived with his mum and older brother on Park Hill Flats and then moved away suddenly. I heard they were living up in the Hillsborough area, but I can't be totally sure about that.

I have Gillott surname in my family tree though I haven't started researching them yet.

My great grandmother was Emily Gillott who married Fred Aspinall 1901, they lived on Cambridge Road, Heeley. I believe (without researching further) that Emily Gillott was from a long line of Gillott people in Heeley.

Regards,

Duffem

Hi Angela hope you are still out there somewhere and as well as can be time is moving fast.  The name Angela Gillott certainly rings a bell but I can't put a face to it unfortunately but I'm sure I know you my name is Steve Maltby (not Harry Worth!) I went to Anns Rd. School from 1959 to 1964 and then on to Newfield Boys until '69. Another name I just came acsross in this thread is Trevor Sugden again can't put a face to him but I definitely know that name! I left England in 1980 to live and work in New Zealand and Australia after that and have been back to Sheffield numerous times since the last time being 2014 to 2016 and presently living in Thailand hoping to get back for this Christmas depending on this covid nonsense! Well I hope to hear from you if not just to say hello take care for now.

Steve Maltby

Hi Clive, hope you see my post some 17 years on

I was at school with Paul and then socialised with him occasionally when in later years he lived at Bradway

I believe he moved from Sheffield to somewhere abroad

Anyone had contact with him in recent years ?
