If they claim asylum on arrival they still have rights under international law, ones the UK is still signed up to.

 

Or perhaps you'd like the UK to join with Russia and Belarus with it's stance on human rights?

It states that they cannot claim asylum, the next option will mean £££  for the legals.

Fat lot of good that will do.   It seems the government can't return them unless they are from Albania   Johnson tore up the agreements.

Who has been affected by the Illegal Migration Act so far?

 

In short, nobody. Home Office estimates reveal that as of 3 October 2023, around 11,000 people have crossed the channel in small boats since the Illegal Migration Act was passed. But so far, none of these people have been removed from the UK. This is because the duty to remove these people has not yet come into force.

Just before the legislation was passed, the Government tabled an amendment which allowed them to change the date after which the Home Secretary will be under a duty to remove these people. This could mean the Government change the date to align with the Rwanda judgment, or another date in the future of their choosing.

 

This is what is currently being debated in the House of Lords.

 

Perhaps you'd prefer us to be, along with Russia, Belarus and Hungary, one of the few European countries not abiding by international law / treaties?

All smoke and mirrors.

 

It won't change a thing. People will continue to arrive via small boat and immediately claim asylum and we'll have to consider that.

I believe that we cannot stop the dingheys and with 745,000 net immigration last year, its a small percentage.

Much better to get the total net immigration figure down, which is what the Tories promised.

Not that promises mean anything to the Tories.

 

Having really high net immigration lowers peoples pay, we saw HGV drivers pay rise sibstantially when there was a shortage of workers. We want higher pay, surely?
