Skink
not sure if anyone will be able to help on this, but if you dont ask . . . My daughter is applying to 6th form and is torn between King Edwards and Henry Fanshawe - but with all the Covid stuff going on you cant visit and recent performance / Ofsted stuff isn't being updated Obviously King Edwards is easier to get to and got a recent "Good" from Ofsted. But Henry Fanshawe got an "Outstanding" Ofsted (5 years ago) and seems to have changed Head since then Anyone have any views / info / thoughts? Skink
alas much of the data is old, in the 2018 King Edwards inspection didn't really call out the 6th form. And data doesn't tell the whole story of a school the other data sources we have using include Guardian Schools, where Henry Fanshawe appears to do better: https://www.theguardianschoolsguide.co.uk/schools/king-edward-vii-school-107140/ https://www.theguardianschoolsguide.co.uk/schools/dronfield-henry-fanshawe-school-112969/index.html
Annie Bynnol
Subjects, subject performance, combination of subjects, timetable, facilities and the extra curricular bits should be enquired into. Journey time impacts extra curricular activities and friendships. A large number of Key stage 5 students at KES are new to the school and new friends are easily made. There are very few annoying Key Stage 3 kids at KES. Why not Tapton or Notre Dame- both are well served by buses? As most students are encouraged to do 4 subjects at 'A' level, the fourth subject choice can be an issue. Is the fourth subject available? Does the fourth subject clash on the timetable? Is the fourth subject 'fun', relaxing. useful? Some fourth subjects do not like being considered as such so want to see genuine interest and commitment. There are other factors involved if Oxford and Cambridge are being considered.
sarahdu
My daughter is at king edwards. We are closer to king ecgbert, and she attended silverdale up until GCSE’s. she viewed all, but there were restrictions on being able to do the combination of subjects she wanted to at king ecgberts, and the content of one subject at silverdale was not quite right. king edwards does so many subjects, and has multiple classes per subject so this wasn’t a problem. It’s in a very vibrant part of the city she’s made friends easily, and although they haven’t been at school for most of the last year, has done well. Consider subject selection in your selection too.
