Nice village locations between Sheffield and Chesterfield

Recommended Posts

We're looking for somewhere closer to Sheffield than Chesterfield I'd say. Our budget is up to 240,000 but we'd rather stay nearer 200,000 (we're first time buyers).

What about Coal Aston?

Don't really know much about it, I'm sure it has nice areas though.

It's probably closer to Chesterfield centre than Sheffield centre though...

Unfortunately (for you) the south of Sheffield is one of the more expensive bits.

What size house do you want/need for your 200k.

Yes, we're discovering that. Prices in Millhouses, Beauchief, Dore etc are astronomical.

We'd be happy with 2 bedrooms, 3 would be nice but having a private and pleasant outside space is more important than the 3rd bedroom.

We have been very happy in Unstone for the last dozen or so years, couple of good schools : junior and infant, good bus service, nice local folk...

Have you looked in Greenhill (close to Beuchief and people who live there like to call it Beuchief as it has the same post code), Ecclessall, Bradway Nether Edge? Plenty of 3 bed semi's in you price range on right move.

Dronfield Woodhouse is a brilliant place to live. Have been there for the past forty three years and would not consider moving. Plenty of organisations to join in the Dronfield area with lots of friendly people. Very convenient for Sheffield & Chesterfield with open countryside on our doorstep.

Whitwell, Creswell, and Elmton in North East Derbyshire are all near to Chesterfield and Sheffield with good transport and reasonable property prices.

The first two have a bit of a reputation for being rough, don't know about the last one.

The first two have a bit of a reputation for being rough, don't know about the last one.

I have lived in four areas of Sheffield also in Nottingham, Wakefield and Thorne but the best place I have ever lived [8 years] is Creswell.

The people in that village are the salt of the Earth, A people that had to change their lives after the pit was closed by Thatcher.

Part of the Village where the pit top was is now an Industrial estate that has brought jobs to the area, The Model Village an area that was deemed to be rough has now been transformed intO a garden setting with landscaped open spaces.

There are corners of the village where the well of pit managers and agricultural workers from the Dukeries lived as well as new private housing.

The pubs and clubs [two clubs] three pubs are welcoming and I am proud to have lived among the Creswellians who made me so welcome.

As to rough well, they are pussy cats when compared to what was deemed to be pleasant areas of Sheffield at one time.

Elmton is the posh part of Creswell where the councillors seem to live and the houses in that part would still be in the price bracket stated by the O.P.
