despritdan   241 #1 Posted April 17, 2014 Does anyone know where I can get a repair done to an electric drill? The mechanism in the head that bites onto the drill bits isn't working. Would it be cheaper to buy a new one?
 Share this content via...

Would it be cheaper to buy a new one?   It sounds like the Chuck is at fault. That is the part that holds the drill. This can easily replaced, price would depend on the model of the drill. I bought one 6 months ago, cost about £15.
 Share this content via...
Norseman   10 #6 Posted April 17, 2014 Does anyone know where I can get a repair done to an electric drill? The mechanism in the head that bites onto the drill bits isn't working. Would it be cheaper to buy a new one?  I got my chuck on ebay, Paid £3.45 with £4 postage, works a treat, came fully boxed with that little screw that goes through the middle as well.  it just depends on what size you require, when you want it and how long you are prepared to wait for delivery.  Then again, I just bought a brand new B&D 14.4V cordless hammer drill with spare battery for £26 on ebay as a spare again no complaints.  Sometimes its worth buying a new drill as they can be pricey. I have a Jacobs chuck on my Power devil - the £3.45 one and its great
 Share this content via...
returnofjim   10 #7 Posted April 17, 2014 Yep ebay will be cheapest, also the screw in the middle of the chuck should be left hand thread so remember that when trying to loosen it.
 Share this content via...

despritdan   241 #10 Posted April 17, 2014 This might be an sds drill with no chuck. If you can let me know the make and model i can advise you.  Thanks for your reply. It's a Bosch PSB 350. The chuck doesn't unscrew so the drill would have to be dismantled I suppose. It's actually my Brother in Laws who's lent it to me whilst he's away. yellowperil   10 #11 Posted April 18, 2014 The chuck will come off dont worry, usually without dismantling the drill. Its a 3/8 chuck,if you want to order one from ebay and pm me ill tell you how to get it off. Hope that helps you. You can upgrade to a keyless chuck if you like, saves losing the key. Are you tightening the chuck by using all three holes with the key? That might help.  ---------- Post added 18-04-2014 at 01:30 ----------  3/8 x 24 unf Female thread.  ---------- Post added 18-04-2014 at 01:35 ----------  Make sure if you get keyless its suitable for an impact drill.
