Yep, me too! We never got taught grammar at school, it's a real eye opener learning a new language.

That's not weird. English was contaminated by Latin. Lots of words in english have a Latin root. Newton was a guy writing in Latin and not in english. The usage of tenses in english is quite similar to latin ones. In Latin there is a construction named perifrastica passiva which is very similar to your continuous tenses in the past in the future and in present...this is very latin.

Anyway, if you are interested let me know it please.

All the best.

All Brits abroad can speak Italian. Example (spoken at high volume):

"OI LUIGI, TWO-O BEERS-O, OVER HERE-O PRONTO-O, OKEY-DOKEY-O AMIGO?!" :hihi:

In some respects if you talk like this in Italy, they can call for you an ambulance. I think you should have lots of friends in the mental hospital.:)

Do you have any meatballs ??? :hihi:

Considering that you are english, I think you could have some problems in cooking also simple meatballs. Why don't you drink a beer? I think this is an activity easier and suitable for a person like you.:)

You don't actually have to speak Italian, you can get by by just waving your hands around

To move hands and so to communicate is an art and is called communication.

Language is a chapter of the book communication. In your case I suggest to start to move your hands at home. If you understand yourself waving hands, please let us know. We are always interested in talented people.

I have no idea what that means, could we be speaking in code language to take over the world ??? :hihi:

My dear bed rock,

I guess that your nickname talks about you. I was replying to you for a unique reason: to have 5 published posts. Now I have achieved my aim and I can reply to private messages (that's a rule of the forum). To be brutally honest with you, I think you should change a bit your style becuase it is too much aggressive. I am aware of the english banter and I know that the english sarcasm is a bit subtle and written among the lines. According to this, I think that your sarcam cannot be defined perfectly British. However you should respect individuals apart from their nationality. I am Italian and I am proud of being it. According to my culture, jokes or sort of intimancy with people are allowed just in some cases: among friends, in places where chatting is free and face to face and so on. In our case, I do not know you and you do not know me. SO please be more considerate.

All the best.

My Italian is a bit rough however I think he said something like "Thank you very much. You are very kind but if you knew me better, you would understand that you're not quite right"

Italian is a lovely language as it flows however I'm not particularly gifted in languages though I can get by in German if need be. A former barber of mine was Italian though he used to lose me quite a bit as he spoke too quickly
