Hiya Peter R, The things you mention is all true as i too use to work

at firth browms late 50s, i use to work in light forge on savile st,

I use to get a cheap pass for the week for a dinner in the canteen. :hihi:

Sure you'll have had a meal there at some point. Brian.[/QUOT

Hi Brian,

I used the canteen on Saville Street near to Carwood Road junction occasionally. Our office staff took their own cutlery for some reason which was obscure to me then. Being the 'junior' I had the job of washing it all afterwards :(.[/QUO

----------

I can remember standing in the queue for our pay packet,

No 40, did 12hrs shift days/nighs for £22, i ern't my dosh in them days.

Pay time was 9.00pm. :hihi::hihi:

Sorry I can't give you a direct link, but go to http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk and type in EAW009659 to get a 1947 aerial view of Atlas and Norfolk Steelworks. Follow Carwood road up from bottom left of pic to Carlisle Street and the Carwood Hotel can be seen, albeit very tiny. The upper storey seems to be painted white at the time.

Type in EAW009643, 644 and 657 for very slightly different views.

Hi tare19

It was called Slacky's, Ken was a fried of Rod Turton who was the landlord of The Tea Gardens at the time.

Not sure if Kens wife was called Linda a well dress lady.

Ken's wife was Angie when they had Slacky's. They moved from there to the Strines in and then to the Cheshire Cheese in Castleton, where they stayed until about 10 years ago.
