victoria12 Â Â 10 #925 Posted January 13, 2016 Wanting to do a Parkrun this weekend but am concerned that it may be cancelled due to the expected frosty weather. I would be willing to travel a little further afield if anyone can advise of any courses that may be less susceptible to frost. Â Do any local PRs have a good record of going ahead? Flanker7 Â Â 20 #926 Posted January 14, 2016 The current forecast is +1 or 0 for the 9 hours before 9:00am. This will almost certainly change in the next 48 hours. Â Best thing to do is check the facebook page when you get up and just before you leave home. Â Several runs have course inspections about an hour before start time and post the news a.s.a.p. But, be warned, late cancellations are not unusual. Â Hallam is particularly susceptible to ice as their start/finish area is usually covered in water. sharpend   11 #927 Posted January 14, 2016 Rother Valley is on the assumption that you travel knowing it could be called off at short notice. There is a specific patch or the course which the sun rarely gets to at this time of year.
 Share this content via...
Jimmy O Â Â 10 #928 Posted January 14, 2016 I think Concord is the only local one that has never been cancelled due to weather.
 Share this content via...
Flanker7 Â Â 20 #929 Posted January 14, 2016 Just been to the start area of Hallam. It's not bad. There is a puddle and a small wet dribble towards it but not enough to cause a problem (imo). What happens to the damp paths when frozen is anyone's guess. Â Graves - Anyone seen 'the Avenue' area where ground water ran across the path two weeks ago? rvparkrun   10 #930 Posted January 15, 2016 Evening all,  The course at Rother Valley has been inspected this evening and it is too icy to safely hold the event. It is unlikely to thaw by 0900 so better to cancel now, and give runners an option of heading to another event.  RVp
 Share this content via...
Flanker7   20 #931 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) Graves are doing an early course inspection and posting on facebook at 8am.  ---------- Post added 16-01-2016 at 16:33 ----------  Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 16-01-16  81- Concord : 8th Highest Attendance 237 - Graves : 3rd Highest 205 - Hillsborough: 5th Highest 42 - Castle : 22nd Highest, again! 623 - Hallam : 4th Highest : 2 Rafferty's = 400 runs. Congratulations.  Total - 1168  Iced off - Rother Valley 73 - Clifton Park : 4th Highest  Total - 73  Combined Total - 1241  Great numbers for an icy morning in January. The parkrun addicts from Rother Valley spread out to boost other runs. We returned home via Millhouses park and thought what a great place for a parkrun, but its just not big enough. Thinking about the problems Chesterfield are having new parkrun sites seem to be very few in this area. swfclad1 Â Â 10 #932 Posted January 25, 2016 Highly recommend the Hillsborough parkrun to anyone, used to run Hallam but its a victim of its own success, has just got too busy.
 Share this content via...
Flanker7   20 #933 Posted January 26, 2016 Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 23-01-16  92 - Concord, a top 5 attendance 231 - Graves, a top 5 attendance 223 - Hillsborough, 6th time attendance tops 200 35 - Castle, Course record for VM55-59, 19:07 621 - Hallam, 9th time in the 600's  Total - 1202  224 - Rother Valley, New Record Attendance and new course record, 15:26 73 - Clifton Park, a top 5 attendance  Total - 297   Combined Total - 1499  parkrun in Sheffield and Rotherham is reaching new highs every week in 2016. 1500 runners will be exceeded with ease when the warmer weather arrives. If anyone is feeling the squeeze then try one of the smaller events where the parkrun family atmosphere comes shining through. I guarantee it will be worth the effort. duffman   10 #935 Posted January 31, 2016 I did the Hillsborough Parkrun for the first time yesterday!  Considering it was only about the 5th time I had run, I was happy enough just getting to the finish without having to stop. 37.23 isn't a great time, but now I have something to aim to beat! Flanker7   20 #936 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 30-01-16  72 - Concord 211 - Graves 199 - Hillsborough ??? - Castle 559 - Hallam  Total - 1041  202 - Rother Valley 76 - Clifton Park Total - 278  Combined Total = 1319  Anyone know what happened at Castle?  The parking wardens were skulking around Graves car park on the dot of 9:30am and managed to pick several parkrunners off with £60 tickets. Its 40p to avoid this but the ticket can blow off the dashboard as you shut the door, a couple got caught this way too. Not in keeping with the city of sport or rewarding community cohesion but this kind of joined up thinking is light years away from what any (99%) Council is able to do. Little Stoke (Bristol) parkrun are fighting to avoid a Council parkrun fee of £1 per runner, per Event! Pop over to their facebook site and sign the petition. Graves and Hallam fought off the Council over a £100 annual fee a couple of years ago, it can be done.
