New Years Day

8:30am Dewsbury

9:00am Glossop to Hillsborough = 43 mins*

9:00am Clumber Park to RVp = 27 mins*, to Graves = 43 mins*

9:00am Barnsley to RVp = 32 mins*

10:00am Hillsborough

10:00am Graves

10:30am Rother Valley.

*- with traffic

I've started several parkruns late and easily caught the tail runner. Most memorably Aberdeen 12 mins late. I was at the start with 15 mins to spare only to realise that my barcode was still hiding in the hotel (dfyb) and I went back to get it. Due to the switch-back nature of the course along the upper and lower parts of the promenade I could see across to most of the field. Good fun if you don't mind taking a hit on the clock.

Try this for a much better 'finder' with distances and times.

Look for Dewsbury/Barnsley or Clumber for starting points, Hillsborough not included but starts at 10:00 --- http://users.ecs.soton.ac.uk/rfp07r/parkrun/nyd2015.html

Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 12-12-15

48 - Concord

117 - Graves

116 - Hillsborough

55 - Castle

339 - Hallam

Total 675

92 - Rother Valley

43 - Clifton Park

Total 135

Combined Total 810

It looks like Striders mobbed Castle. The 20mph wind-chill on wet skin must have taken the perceived temp down to minus numbers. Well done everyone who turned out. It looks like the 8:30 am start at Dewsbury makes all the difference to the NYD doubles.

Evening all,

When we decided to put an additional run on, on NYD, I don't think any of the other Sheffield parkruns had decided to put an event on, or the time they were going to run at.

Clumber had already declared a 09:00 am start, so for those runners over this side of town, it made sense to offer that as a double.

Plus with the added bonus of a lie in, we thought we might be in with a better chance of filling the volunteer roster, with or without hangovers ;-)

For New Year doubles, it seems, if based in Sheffield, its' either Barnsley/Hillsborough or Clumber/RV

Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 26-12-15

16 - Concord

155 - Graves

115 - Hillsborough

??? - Castle

349 - Hallam

Total - 635

109 - Rother Valley

34 - Clifton Park

Total - 143

Combined Total - 778

Concord set a new attendance record of 249 on Christmas Day an increase of over 100. Good evidence that parkrun is addictive and loads of parkrunners will not, cannot, miss a parkrun whenever possible.

We are giving serious consideration to a Dewsbury(8:30)/Graves(10:00) double on New Year Day. The loss of 30 minutes in bed gives another 30 miles travel distance. More than enough to let us get to Graves . . .I hope.

Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 'New Years Day'

214 - Graves

158 - Hillsborough

RVp = Iced off.

RVp had 77 'likes' for their explanation of why they cancelled, a pity but understandable. Graves came within a whisker of the same fate but the solution was about 150 metres of 'off-piste' running in muddy, waterlogged mire. Falling in mud is much less dangerous than on ice as a couple of runners found out. A Dewsbury/Graves double was achieved with ease, with other runners going onto Huddersfield by cycle. Did anyone attempt a Barnsley/Hillsborough?

127 - Rother Valley

54 - Clifton Park

Back with a truck load of New Year Resolutioners who pushed combined attendances over the 1k mark after the whole of December in 3-figures.

Did Barnsey and Hillsborough on NYD.

Barnsley - lots of ice, probably mostly ice, tricky on such a hilly course, needless to say - very few PBs

Hillsborough, just couple of patches of ice - nothing too serious

Noticed same people at both parkruns - obviously had same idea, good fun doing two 5k in a day.

Rotherham & Sheffield parkrun attendances for 09-01-16

210 - Rother Valley, New Attendance Record +1

98 - Clifton Park, New Attendance Record +23

Total - 308

97 - Concord, 4th Highest

232 - Graves, 3rd Highest

238 - Hillsborough, New Attendance Record +14

42 - Castle, 22nd Highest

610 - Hallam, 6th Highest

Total - 1,219

Combined Total - 1,527

Twenty-five cancellations across UK parkrun this week but that wasn't the reason we set a highest on record 1,527 runners as all 7 local runs went ahead.

Rotherham's two runs both set new attendance records. Hillsborough did their bit for Sheffield and everyone else pitched in with high turnouts. It wasn't the weather that's for sure. I guess last weeks 'resolutioners' all enjoyed running tremendously and told their friends about it. In fact 121 first timers joined the Sheffield and Rotherham parkruns as part of the biggest running event in the world.
