-Call me Al-
There's no hypocrisy here, it is Justin Welby that has it in for Wonga not the C of E; but JW as arch Bishop will hopefully get the C of E to change its ways.

No one likes Wonga and the sooner they disappear, the better.
Jeffrey Shaw
No one likes Wonga. Yet people keep using it. So they don't wish it to disappear, do they.
Staunton
Churches ... should stick to God bothering and mind their own business. Social justice is the business of the Church.
Agent Orange
Yet people keep using it. So they don't wish it to disappear, do they. They are desperate. If there was a fairer alternative, they would use that instead.
Jeffrey Shaw
They are desperate. If there was a fairer alternative, they would use that instead. But there are other options: Banks, Building Societies, Credit Unions, Insurance Companies, etc.
-Call me Al-
But there are other options: Banks, Building Societies, Credit Unions, Insurance Companies, etc. Credit unions perhaps, but banks aren't interested in lending someone £80 for 4 days. truman
They are desperate. If there was a fairer alternative, they would use that instead. Genuine question.. how much would you charge someone with zero (or very poor) credit rating to borrow £200 for a month? Agent Orange
Genuine question.. how much would you charge someone with zero credit rating to borrow £200 for a month? Not 5,853%, that's for sure. I wouldn't loan them anything as I am not in the credit business so could not give you a figure. I am with the church on this though. Those unfortunate enough to find themselves applying for an emergency loan should not be cripple by these companies. There needs to be a fair way for these people to get the money or help they need without becoming a slave to their debt. Ryedo40
I think it's great they are going to try and compete against other businesses like wonga. I just hope the church, like other businesses, is forced to pay tax.
