alf1956
cheers for that charlie, just been on the enviroment agency web site&here is a copy of what it staes so it looks like worm by either leger or float dosent it ? Lures and baits On waters where the close season for freshwater fish applies the only lures or baits which may be used during the close season are natural or artificial fly, minnow, worm, shrimp, prawn, sand eel or artificial lures. It is an offence to fish for salmon by means other than an artificial fly or artificial lure before 16 June.
chidorii
might have a bash. will the trout be in shape now? I know if you accidently get one before season they sometimes have excess skin as if they've lost a bit of weight, and don't get many of them square looking ones! BigDonWizzle
not too sure but i know i miss the river season already ;(
charliewag
i wouldn't be tempted to eat a trout from the don except perhaps from the upper reaches. whilst the river is undoubtedly a lot cleaner it still holds deposits of heavy metals (e.g mercury) in the river bed. chidorii
Ahhh interesting, I know these metals are naturally occurring and is why pregnant women should avoid fish. Do you think there are dangerous levels of heavy metal in the Don due to its history of being a drain for industry waste? I guess when things work their way into the riverbeds, they are there forever!
MrSkinner
You'd need to eat about 10,000 trout to build up any harmful level
chidorii
You'd need to eat about 10,000 trout to build up any harmful level I feel sorry for the cormorants then!
MrSkinner
I think that's probably the first sympathetic comment towards a cormorant I've ever heard!
D.O.N.E
All this talk about taking a trout or two is worrying. Don't forget they are not stocked fish, but wild ones that take time to grow and breed. Please put them back.
charliewag
well said d.o.n.e, even though they are a game fish stocks would be depleted if people started taking them. we'd be no better than the east europeans then. the only trout i take are from stocked waters such as toft newton.
