HDMI to VGA Connector

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where I can get one of these in Sheffield? I don't want the big hub looking adapter, just the cable converter. I've looked on the Maplins website but can't see one

Do you have a DVI connection you can use, most of these are specc'd to carry VGA.

It doesn't work like that, you must have a large hub connector.

The cables carry different types of signal, so you need a box to convert from one type to the other.

This Lindy converter is pretty compact tho

They certainly do exist, used one the other day with a Raspberry Pi. It went from the Pi's HDMI to the Monitor's VGA, no hub

This is the type I'm looking for

The Pi doesn't output a VGA signal over HDMI - so that one you were using must be performing some sort of active conversion. If it's active then that means it is powered. If there are no other inputs into it for power then it is running off the Pi's PSU via the HDMI port.. that can cause problems depending on what you have hanging of the USB controller.

I assume the type of thing you're looking for is the same as this? I don't know where to get one in Sheffield, but I guess at least having a photo/link to one might make it easier to explain to people.

It must have been using a passive conversion using the Pi's power then. Either way, it worked flawlessly all day when I was using it. No idea where I can get one in Sheff anyone? Don't want to buy a £50 hub
