Where in Sheffield has the most inexpensive new laptops?

Recommended Posts

If its just to browse the Internet wouldn't she be better with a netbook?

I agree. I recommended a netbook to my dad for similar useage, and he's chuffed to bits with it. £200 ish, can't complain at that.

i disagree netbooks are great if you need portability but i think you are best to go for a bigger screen if its just for the house

I want to get my mother simple, inexpensive laptop just for browsing the internet on; I want to get a new, boxed one, not one that has someone else's porn in the hard drive.

Is anyone aware of any laptops in a sale in a branch of Comet perhaps?

pc world the cheapest

It could be worth a trip here. Probably no more than 30 minutes run from the Tinsley junction of the M1.

Dells Outlet store have genuine refurb laptops starting from £220

http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=7&c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh

Theyre not the most glamorous laptops out there, but they do the job. Plus theyre used to entry level users like your parents, so might be able to be able to do tech support

If it's just for the house why not look at a desktop? When you buy a laptop you are paying a premium (albeit a far lower premium nowadays than it was a few years ago) for miniaturisation.

If you buy a desktop you can buy whatever size monitor you like and you aren't stuck with a tiny keyboard.

Meh, the tech support will be outsourced to a call centre, probably an Indian one at that!

Well, yeah, but the staff there more than helpful.

My mother is useless with computers and she can understand Dells support team without much stress... Theyre still better than PC World or Currys 'support'
