Anyone grew up in Firth Park in 60s/70s?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I went to Shiregreen "Borstal" and left in 1966 (I think - a long time ago) and grew up on Bevercotes Road. Have many memories, good and bad. I remember Glynn Williams in the infant school had to be escorted down the yard to the toilets because he used to run away every day.

Grew up on there myself too (Bevercotes Road)

Left around 76 and moved to Marlcliffe...did you live near the top or bottom end of Bevercotes?

I lived on Horndean Road at Firvale, but spent a lot of time in and around Firth Park so knew the area well. I was at Hucklow Road Infants and Juniors and went to Shiregreen in 1967 from what I remember my form tutor was Miss Baggley (or something similar) absolutely hated her, she taught RE, remember walking out of school one day and going to my Grandma at Attercliffe as the stupid woman had thrown a dickie fit over a letter that I hadn't taken back. I transferred to Hinde House in 1969 under the regime of Mr Edwards and his small sidekick who for the life of me I can't remember his name, only remember that when talking to him you felt like patting him on the head, both of them used to swish around school like Darth Vader. Whilst at Hinde House I went on a trip to Switzerland, Edwards went with his family, got talking to his daughters apparently he ruled them with a rod of iron as well

I lived on Tideswell Rd in the 50's and 60's. My best friend until '63 was Patricia who lived on Horndean Rd. I also remember Elizabeth who had great big long plaits to below her waist who lived on Cammell Road and Valerie, who lived on Hucklow Road in one of the houses with the big 'keyhole' entrances

Hi was it Patricia Woodcock, if so she lived across the road from me and was slightly older, as I recall her parents were separated and she lived with her mother

Hi sheena56. No, I remember her having a dad and the name Woodcock doesn't ring a bell. The house was near St Cuthberts church.

I lived at 31, I remember a Trevor who lived around the junction of Horninglow and Tideswell, but not too many surnames. Is No.59 about at the junction?

Hi Bobby64. I lived around the middle of Bevercotes. My mum still lives there. It's changed a lot over the years.

Hiya meandyou, I lived there from 64 to around 76ish...sold the house to a lovely family and then we all moved to Hillsborough. Even went to Shiregreen Junior and Middle school.

It was a great road to grow up on and I had some fun times on there. Families, like the Rutherfords, Robertsons, Grants, Hancocks, Boolers, Swinerds, Nodders, Holmes and us the Taylors...I still park on there outside the old house when I visit Nat West at Firth Park.
