The IKEA in Sheffield thread

Been 2 days on the trot. Only because I had to take something back. Today the fire alarm went off and we all had to just leave out trolleys/items and evacuate for about 20mins. They were having a lot of technical difficulties today with the tills and orders etc as well. A lot of people moaning but its a brand new building and a huge thing to swt up. It will have a few issues and thats to be expected. Great experience overall.

I've got an ikea family card and never got an invite to the preview day.

 

It wasnt anything to miss out on. Prior to rhata there had been friends and family days. It wasnt an invite you received. It was for you to go online and book a slot on yoir account. It was advertised.

No more long boring drives to Eastwood. No more spending my pennies in L**ds! And the Sheffield one is BETTER - for a change!

 

It really is better! Really pleased it's there as there are often little bits we want to buy (and of course the meatballs), so it's great not having to drive an hour to do so!

Just seen in star , ikea have not employed many people from surrounding areas

e.g. Darnall, tinsley it was suggested in order to get planning permission ikea was asked to employ local people ,now come on how many people in Darnall want to work,

If their recruitment was anything like when Tesco Savile Street did their's, they had to widen the net as a lot of people from around that area were not suitable for any positions.

Anybody from the Sheffield area comes into the category of 'local people'. If they meant from the immediate locality they would have phrased it that way.

A friend of mine applied after being told by the job centre. The jobs were advertised but months ago and they shipped the workers to other Ikea stores for training.

This thread is 155 pages long so I think it's fair to say there's been more than a little interest in IKEA's Sheffield store. Anybody unaware of it is probably unemployable anyway.

If you believe that to be true, is it beyond the capabilities of the unemployed to contact ikea directly to ask about vacancies and where they are advertising?!?

Actually, jobs were advertised on Indeed, Jobsite, Reed ..etc. You just have to look hard enough.

Many of jobs went trough the recruitment agencies. It does not say IKEA as employer,(agency name is in the job description) but if you click on the job offer, it does redirect you on agency page when you can clearly see that job is in IKEA, Sheffield
