Funky_Gibbon
Luckily for us working folk, scroungers like the OP will hopefully be forced to take work or loose his pocket money. 500,000 job vacancies (many of them low-paid, part-time/temp and not anywhere within travelling distance of Sheffield). 2.5million unemployed and rising. And that's before the government finds a million disabled people 'fit to work' or adds another 400,000 people to it from the public sector. So are the minimum of 2million who will still be out of work, even if all vancancies are filled, scroungers who deserve to lose their benefits? ange1312
People who polute the most, should pay the most. ERR DURR!!!! Cars are already taxed according to their emissions (dependent on date of registration) and duty is paid on fuel ergo those drivers who run cars that are not economical for fuel/ or have high emissions already pay more. ECCOnoob
How about introducing road pricing in Rush Hour say between 7.30am - 9.30am and from 3pm to 6pm. This could fund Public Transport of each car had to pay £6.06 to drive past a certain point. For example, from the Hillborough end you could put charging booths near Morrisons and from the other end (woodseats) put booths at Meersbrook Why £6.06? because most drivers won't bring change and so will get overcharged as they do in car parking spaces. For a MOtorway you could charge £5 per motorway junction, so to go from JJunct 36 to Junct 40, this will cost £20 This could fund the buses and make drivers assess why they are on the roads at that time. This could also fund the buses and create more free passes for people in the day and it would also help with the environment. This would keep a few leftys in jobs and so would go down well with the council What do others think? OK. lets bring you back to Planet Earth shall we. Firstly, the reason there is such a thing as a rush hour is that most working people have to start between 8-10 with a finish around 4-6. That's the time most offices and shops like to open to meet the demands of their customers. Secondly, if your "idea" was proposed the public transport system would simply not cope with the demand - no matter how much investment, buses only hold a certain amount of people and there is only so much space on the road - take a look at haymarket / high street at peak times and see the chaos. Also, be realistic with your "charges" £5 per motorway junction... really?? so, a commute to leeds is £130 per day.........more than triple the average admin worker's salary..... hmmmm And before you say it trains are out. The network is already overcapacity at rush hour and the congestion outside stations with little track space is a common occurance on the commuter routes. Sorry mate, its just not gonna happen Edited February 21, 2011 by ECCOnoob

Squiggs
Is there not even a small possibility that one or two of these 2 million could use their brain and start their own small business? A proportion will have done. The businesses may have failed. Not least because the biger businesses are slow payers - even more so when the cashflow slows down. Some small businesses cannot afford to continue trading whilst they are owed money by larger companies that they supply their products or services to. ECCOnoob
Are you claiming that Admin workers work for £43 a day? POPPYCOCK !!!! Well close enough..... take an average secretary/admin wage £14,500 per annum (less deductions) = net salary of £229.41 per week divide by 5 days = £45.88 per day net pay. Vague_Boy
This could fund Public Transport I'm sure the shareholders of the privately owned First, Stagecoach, TM Travel, Veolia etc. would certainly put you on their Christmas card list for that suggestion.
