djelibeybi
Just heard the council are upping there rents 7% and above inflation. It said in an article in The Star a while back that the rents were going up by 6.8% to bring them in line with rents charged by Housing Associations. Found The Star articles Council house rent rise (12/1/11) and Council rent rise cap plea (13/1/11) Edited February 3, 2011 by djelibeybi added Links
Frank Sidney
That's bad news for those who work and are on a low income but above the housing benefit threshold and the elderly with a private pension..At the bottom of the scale, people on benefit will have it paid by housing benefit, so it'll not make any difference.. Bonjon
Bout time too, there pretty low as they are, dont think 7% is enough though.

That's a bit of a red herring. Councils long since had the properties paid for from public funds. Housing Association have to get a mortgage to part fund developments... CorkerSWFC
We pay £110 a week for a downstairs 3 bed maisonette i find that steep me, and that's without the rise. Defo time to start thinking about leaving the council soon, these maisonettes are falling apart no where near are they worth the money they charge. lynsey82
Hasn't it been increased to help towards the amount of money the councils have been spending to regenerate putting in new kitchens, bathrooms, re-wiring, re- plastering, new heating, new windows and doors and roofs etc? I know that not all the properties have been done but surely the ones that have had all this work done shouldn't be complaining about the increase? Just my thoughts. You mean the council PAID for that shoody workmanship, i thought they got it free allowing people to train on the job as a first job, im sorry but the standards of workmanship on these "upgrades" are terrible to say the least!!
lynsey82
It can't be that bad, it still had to be passed off by the council and I know how hard they were on the workers with all their snagging lists.
