slimsid2000
None smokers will never admit that it has had a catastrophic effect on the pub trade, ) I suspect most non smokers believe that even if that is true (and it is far from proved) it is still a small price to pay for protection from passive smoking. Most none smokers value their own health above a publicans income. And why shouldn't they?
sierraman
Beer gardens have now become no go areas for the non smoker. Scriffy and littered with cigarette stubs with ashtrays full of water. Eating outside in the beer garden during the summer months is definitely out with me now! There has to be something better than the current situation. Can't they set aside a special room in or adjacent to the pub with powerful extractors and open windows to cater for the smokers?
slimsid2000
Smoking ban. What ban? I haven't been banned from anything i have been protected from something. Interesting how our semantics can be manipulated to give an impression. The word ban implies authority stopping ordinary people from doing something. On the other hand protection suggests we are being looked after in some way.
Blaze
Before I say anything, I am a non-smoker (ex-smoker). Still, I believe the decline in the number of pubs is purely down to the smoking ban. Rather than a total ban could not breweries have been allowed to set aside rooms for smokers, install air conditioning, cater for everyone? No, our namby pamby government have to fall in line with (most of) the rest of Europe. I have been to out door venues where smoking is banned, yet traffic is freely passing by, what a joke.
