Recommended Posts

I can't believe some people could be so heartless has to knock down a little dog then drive off. Luckily it was taken to the RSPCA and seemed to be coming around. Little terrier knocked down on woolie wood road this afternoon.

If anyone witnessed it and took the registration then report it to the police as its an offence to fail to stop and report hitting a dog!

hope the poor thing is ok now.x

Apparently only one witness but didn't get his number only that it was a black car.:(

Unfortunately, reporting it to the Police probably wouldn't do much good. I reported a hit and run to a big dog last year. The dog had a broken leg and the car was damaged. I gave Police car make, colour, registration number, description of driver, and still they did nothing except say that it is illegal for a dog to be out roaming with no ID.

I get the impression it depends on which police officer you speak to when dealing with dog related matters

did the RSPCA scan for a chip?

have you posted this dog on doglost or checked to see if the owner has reported it as missing on the same site?

Unfortunately, a dog was destroyed under instruction from SCC recently as it had been hit by a car, taken to the RSPCA, was legally the responsibility of SCC as it was legally deemed to be 'straying', and although the owner had reported the loss, there is no mechanism for information such as this to be married up in our council offices. The dog was destroyed as treatment would have exceeded the small sum the council are restricted in paying, although the dog's insurance would have covered the necessary treatment

My dad-in-laws Akita got run down by some prat in an Escort nr Woodhouse West School two weeks ago. Not only was the driver aggressive at the scene, he didnt take my dad-in-law to the vets and promptly drove off. The dog died. The police spoke to the idiot and he claimed he didnt know it was an offence to leave, they told him it was and that was it. What was wrong with a nice, swift punch for him thats what I want to know?
