Carborundum
Don't get caught like I almost did - scenario ... get taxi back from centre of town to suburbs at 2am - granted I was a bit "worse for wear" after being out on the town and that is when he seizes his opportunity .. Charges you just over 10 pounds for the fare WRONG for starters since its normally about 7 quid, but then worse is to come .. You give him 20 pound note and wait for the change - he does a quick note switch out of sight under his dashboard, hands me back a ten pound note and says "Sorry mate you only gave me 10 pounds and asks for more instead?" - if I was to take his 10 and then give him another 20 he ends up driving off with over 30 quid and I am none the wiser ..fortunately in this case I was "just" compos mentis enough to see the scam and raise it then he starts to get very nasty and threatening so I lose it and totally explode - realising he is rumbled he does a quick getaway in his cab ... WITH my 20 pounds - offence number 3 ! I am so sickened and disgusted by this behaviour - makes me wonder how often in the past my honest nature has been taken advantage of like this and I just wanted to post it so people are aware of the scam - I guess best thing is swhen you hand over the note say "Thats 20 quid note mate" or something?? Anyway I will be using taxis MUCH less from now on so this swindling rogue is now ruining business for all the other honest taxi drivers out there ! Cold you recognise him again. The fella is taking advantage of his position and deserves to lose his livelihood. I once had a taxi driver pick me up at the train station and assumed I didn't kow where I was going as I erred when saying my destination. He tried making my fare higher by driving in the wrong direction for a mile or so. It was only when I questioned his route that he said "Oh you mean that Gleadless". Carborundum
I was not on the ball enough to get his registration/taxi number - yes he was asian but that would not narrow it down much since 99% of black cab drivers are ... however I have a vague visual rememberance of him and certain other information he imparted in general chit chat could help trace him which I won't post on here should I wish to pursue it .. but I blame myself partly as well he would never have done that if I was sober I'm thinking .. holymoses
One situation I saw was that the cabbie had put poster on the glass partition so you could not see the meter. When we pulled up on the main road near home, he said a tenner. I told him that I can't see the meter. He said it didn't matter wether I could see it or not. I got my mobile out and said I 'll let the police decide. He crapped his pants and let us off with the fare altogether, I got the same cab a few weeks after and he recongised me, the poster had gone, he was fine saying it was the cab company that had put the posters in not realising they were in the wrong. Gannon
Same happened here, but it was with a tenner for a five pound fair, I instantly rumbled him and got my money back and a free fare to stop me taking his details. Not a bad little scam to pull though if you`ve a bladdered passenger in the back, they wont even notice they are money down in the morning, just think they spent it.
