If you want something to make the most of the Blu-Ray player, why not try something like Wanted?

I'm not a huge fan of action films, but I thought Wanted was excellent and has lots of special effects.

Wanted is GOOD, also Transformers, anything action shows up really good on BluRay, but in general all bluRay films are so much better than what your use to :-)

i'm with Blockbuster.co.uk you can get BluRay dvd's on there really good value for money

I find the shift to I-Max aspect a tad annoying, and would have preferred to have had the option to turn it off and watch the film without it. Yes, they look great, but it kind of pulls you out of the film when it switches. Thankfully I just rented it, and will wait in hope for a 'fixed' version of the disc (even on the DVD the scenes are added as extras, with the main film running in the standard scope aspect).

I think becuase I watched the film on IMAX at the cinema I was expecting something like that to happen on the BD and if it hadn't I would have been dissapointed.

Just how much better is Blu Ray compared to DVD, say if you are watching on a big 12ft wide home cinema projection screen......tempted to try it but some have told me its not that much better really if you have a top of the range DVD player using an optical HDMI connection.....

I have a bluray player, and I have a great DVD player with HDMI and upscaling. Thanks to my obsession with buying films more than once I have a few on both DVD and Bluray.....so I ran a test (gotta love TVs with picture in picture and quick switch function).

Both films started at same time, and checked out the difference. Yes, you can see the difference (the films were Casino Royale and Starship Troopers). The picture is crisper on a HDTV from blu-ray, and no matter how good the upscaler is a DVD never seems to look perfect (although must admit the extended editions of LOTRO trilogy look better than most as they loaded the discs with as much as they could fit).

After watching bluray for about a year and a half now, watching a DVD I can see the difference and the 'hazyness' to the picture.

It is also worth mentioning that some distributors also use the extra space on the bluray discs to add more detail to the sound quality. Some discs even have the option of the normal surround sound or the enhanced bluray surround (Spider-Man 3 is one example). Switching between the two shows what an amazing difference it can make (Spider-Man 3 was almost a decent film on bluray....well, half of it was until Venom appeared and ruined it all).

On a standard TV it is not worth the step-up to bluray at all (or, indeed, to HD downloads), but if you have the kit for it, and love your films, then I'd say "Go for it!"
