Ginger_Kitty
Just thought I'd start a 2009 thread so we can all update whats growing, when and how well as the year goes through. We planted our garlic at the end of December and the first few spikes are poking through this week! The rhubarb is showing its little red shoots too!
lilqueenie
Aaaah.... rhubarb.... not checked mine yet (and too dark now!). I love it. A total hassle-free plant with wicked results in the kitchen. I've not planted anything yet. Am I a bad gardener or what? Still digging beetroot up from last year though. Ginger_Kitty
Garlic can still go in, it needs a good frost to get going, but I think we'll have more of that yet. You can start some things off too like sweet peas and french beans indoors See the below site which I just found - looks useful http://www.trapgroundallotments.org.uk/calendar.html

Excuse my ignorance HypnoToad but what varieties are classed as cider apples? Is there a whole class that is considered particularly good for cider? We have several apple trees (sunset, falstaff, summered, cox, discovery, james grieve and golden delicious) would any of these be particularly suitable for cider? I know people who make cider out of any apples going spare but it'd be good to know which ones to be looking out for.
