Baby buggy brigade - hillsborough park

when is it? where do they meet? -
Hello - is anyone up for a little get together this Tuesday (16th March) for a slingmeet? I thought it would be a good idea to get some of us who use slings/carriers and some of us who are new to the game to swop ideas and possibly try out some different styles (bring a sling if you have one!). Purely selfish! I have been using a BabyBjorn which is getting a little uncomfortable now he's getting bigger, and want to get some advice before lashing out - there are some other parents coming from Baby and Bump: http://www.babyandbump.com/natural-parenting/289937-sling-meet-sheffield-3.html Planning on meeting at Meadowhall Upper deck in the Oasis food court at 11am outside the entrance to the cinema, then we can get a drink and sit somewhere close by where we can cause a little meyhem - should be quiet at that time of the day.

Just seen a place in the centre of Sheffield - didn't catch the name. It is by the back door of Marks and Spencers on Chapel Walk

Hello - I'd love your advice on something. I am thinking of buying a patio fruit tree - something like this: http://www.thompsonandmorgan.com/fruit1/product/dww3680/1.html or this: http://www.thompsonandmorgan.com/fruit1/product/dww3657/1.html And I was wondering if anyone has any experience with anything like this? Do they relly produce good crops? And what kind of pot would you reccomend? It says 2ft pot - would a wooden one do? Or would ceramic be better? And would there be a prefered compost? I was very lucky to be given a Thompson and Morgan voucher for Christmas - and would like to buy a more permanent plant than the usual onions and tomatoes that I usually buy. Thanks!

Patchwork quilt with old sewing machine
lilqueenie replied to lilqueenie's topic in Sheffield Crafts Group
Rwss - thanks - I'd not heard of Running with Scissors, but will investigate the workshops etc - it looks like a good variety of stuff going on. I feel like this is my introduction to the world of Sheffield Crafts! 123456a - good motto to have! I'll do that. And look out the oil can too. A little tlc can go a long way too! I'm so happy to think of all these ancient sewing machines clunking away across Sheffield.... -
Patchwork quilt with old sewing machine
lilqueenie replied to lilqueenie's topic in Sheffield Crafts Group
Good thinking guys - a test patch would be somewhere to start! I've no idea what thickness of wadding to try, I might buy something thin to start with and double up. -
I am planning on using my old Singer Sewing machine for some very simple patchwork quilting. I wanted to ask your advice about whether you though it was up to the job, and if I needed any extra bits. It is a 1900's machine (I think) in pretty good working order. I have never done patchwork before, and although it sews through cotton easily - how would it cope with running over wadding? And how thick could I push it? How thick would you reccommend for a quilt that would be used on cold evenings? Would I need any special needles for it, or a special foot? I am a complete novice at this (which is why my patchwork quilt will be in simple squares, nothing fancy!).

Recommendations for fantastic hairdressers
lilqueenie replied to beckyusher's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Experiences with hairdressers are all so personal. I've found The Business in Stocksbridge really good. No pretensions, really friendly. Think it is a bit of a find because you can't see in the windows from street level (it is on first floor) - but well worth walking up the stairs -
What can i start planting/growing now ready for spring?
lilqueenie replied to elenab's topic in Allotment & Gardening Group
If you are growing broad beans do you sow them in pots before planting outside? My packet of seeds (Aquadulche) say to plant outside from Jan - surely it is too cold? (Although I am not prepared to start digging through the snow!) -
Sheffield/S Yorkshire conservation groups.

Search for 'Environment and Conservation' on the third box on Help Yourself: http://www.sheffieldhelpyourself.org.uk -
I don't know much about weaning - my little boy is only 4 weeks old! But I am interested in this - http://www.babyledweaning.com/ Baby Led Weaning - where you give your baby finger food rather than pureed food - I don' know if your little girl might find something she likes to eat - like a piece of melon - and that might lead her on to other foods?

Non-tent-like maternity clothing (or roomy normal stuff)
lilqueenie replied to Strix's topic in Sheffield Parenting Group
Best maternity buy I made was some maternity vests from Next - super stretchy, and kept me snug. That along with some bigger pants ) -
I planted purple sprouting broccoli outside a few weeks ago from tiny little plug plants, and they have come on really well since. I just put them out with plenty of compost in the hole and kept them well watered. The need some slug protection though. Not grown them before, but I choose them because they will keep the beds green over the dark months and then be ready for cropping in spring (I hope). Also have some winter cabbage - I need something to keep the garden green over the winter!

What veg to plant for winter
lilqueenie replied to lilqueenie's topic in Allotment & Gardening Group
Ok - I am going to investigate my cabbages - hope it is not too late to sow them now. I've also been reading about land crss - like water cress, but it grows on land. Has anyone grown this - and what does it taste like?
