Tomataheeed   10 #16 Posted October 7, 2008 I have had yorkshire water and environmental services to investigate it - they came to the conclusion its an underground stream and advised me to get a pump fitted  Thats the flannel I was given to start with and went to the expense of a pump. Turns out is was a waste pipe leaking...I found out a few months later when hot water leaked into my cellar when next door emptied their bath. Norwich Union finally paid for the fix to the leaking pipes.....after much agro with Yorkshire water who didn't take ownership of the shared drain under section 24....don't get me started !!! 40summat   10 #17 Posted October 7, 2008 Also check all your rain water gulleys are cleaned out and free from debris, they should hold an amount of water as they will have a trap (u bend) to prevent smells coming back.  Get some drain dye and put a bit in each gulley then pour water down them with a bucket or hose pipe, if you get dye in the cellar it could be a damaged gulley or connecting pipe. dan2802 Â Â 53 #18 Posted October 7, 2008 do you do know anyone who does tanking? I dont sorry. I understand the pricipals of what is involved but never undertook one. Your best bet would be to speak to one of the specialist cellar conversion companies.
 Share this content via...

Norwich Union finally paid for the fix to the leaking pipes.....after much agro with Yorkshire water who didn't take ownership of the shared drain under section 24....don't get me started !!! Â lol....im laughing with you definitely not at you- because when it happens, if you dont laugh you will only end up crying. Â im currently 'drying out' after multiple leaks in my cellar. it all started in april last year when next doors connection between their waste pipe and the section 24 drain between the properties failed. it finally got fixed after months of messing about with YW and EVH from the council in october last year. Â then the works to clean my cellar were suspended as a second connection failed. Â then between new year and early september ive the 'lucky' recipient of 2 mains bursts and 3 mains sewage leaks all courtesy of YW....who wont accept any liability at all! Â im waiting to have my concrete cellar floor replaced, the render hacked off and replaced and this is all fingers crossed that the ongoing state of saturation on the cellar hasnt caused any long term damp issues in the property. Â i now have 2 de-humidifiers and a veritable army of fans in a desperate attempt to get things dried out so the repairs works can be carried out....and then the fun begins trying to claim back uninsurable losses, electricity, time of work, phone calls, not to mention the damage to my health and general welfare over the last 18 months. Â although i have details of companies who do tanking work etc, im loath to put them on here...partly because i dsont actually know what their work is like yet (theyve been instructed by the insurance) and secondly they arent local. if you do want their details, just pm me. sophiec1979 Â Â 10 #20 Posted October 14, 2008 just another after thought....do you have a road drain outside your house? if so, get the council to come and clear it out, it may have an impact on the flooding if water isnt draining away where its supposed to go. Â you may need to stamp your feet though, mine only got done after id got the man from EVH and my local councillor to intervene on my behalf.
