Sheffield 10k / Students return and Sheffield Derby

Recommended Posts

Hopefully the police will order the pubs to close until after the game and then the fans might be sober enough to find their way. Never seen a policeman at a 10k race so plenty of resource to send the riot polive to Hillsborough corner. I can't see a few road closures having so much impact on travel on a Sunday morning.

I really cannot believe we will be closing key roads around the university and key accomodation areas on one of the main dates when students will be returning to the city. Either, alone would cause traffic problems and confusion, but we will have many people from out of the city trying to access key university sites only to find their route blocked. On top of this we have a major football match in the city. Brilliant planning.

35,000 at football, last year just over 1200 did 10k run, freshers and some 2nd/3rd year students have already returned so maybe a few thousand student returning to city. Do the math.

It's not even close to numbers for tramlines, it'll be reyt.

It's not so much about the numbers of people but the road closures in town and Ecclesall Road will cause big problems for those aiming to get to Hillsborough for lunchtime.

It could have been a lot worse if IKEA was opening as well. :)

A lot of people have things on the end of their bodies - I think they call them legs. Perhaps if the roads are very busy with strangers coming to Sheffield, who don't know their way around, local people could use both their local knowledge and their funny old fashioned legs to get about.

They also have maps and over a month's warning. You'd expect that folks would have worked out how to get from where they are, to where they need to be, avoiding joggers and football fans. If they haven't... tough luck.

Welcome to Sheffield to all the new students and their families, pity you didn't arrive sooner or at least come for a visit to find your way around the road closures. Good luck to the guys moving into accomodation on Eccy road!
