  1. is completely wrong - if people BUY stock the price RISES - as the act of buying means there's less shares around thus making those shares still on the market worth more, the price falls when people sell - as the shares are easier to find, they are thus worth less... thus when people dump £100,000 worth of shares, it can start a run on the value, as people see the price drop, so dump their shares too, trying to get the best price before the shares are worthless.. and so the cycle continues
  2. yep here in woodseats too... about 20 seconds? huge rumble - house shook!!
  3. yeah, i've put on shows there before it changed hands and they were busy, but a lot of promoters/venues seem to forget to "promote" simply having the show on isn't enough... also they had a (stupid imo) policy of block booking their nights out to different promoters, so you couldn't book the venue itself for a one off show, they never seemed to get rid of promoters who were pulling in no one... destined to failure... as for the academy the main problem will be the small room will cost more than most are willing to pay to hire if it uses a similar pricing to the other academy venues.
  4. yeah municipal waste is now at the casbah august 9th 8pm start, and i agree it should be a mental show, they've specifically requested intimate venues as they're looking for a great atmosphere! glad you enjoyed the leatherface show - that was another of mine
  5. like i said - i'm not sure of all the facts, but was correcting a couple of yours that were blatently wrong - if you see from my post i have no sympathy for my friends actions, just that from the small amount of info gleaned there was some build up.... it's like the previous poster was saying the landlord came in and did nothing - by the time he came into the toilet it was all over bar a tiny scuffle, the headbutt and the whacks had already taken place, the damage was done, i know there seems to have been people asking not to press charges, but the landlord gave a statement naming the attacker to the police, friend or no friend, so i can't see what more he was supposed to do.... if as your stating there was no build up to the fight, there would have been no way to pre-empt any of it would there....
  6. the guy in question is only 5 ft 5....must be the mohican adding to the illusion of him being big... and he was going through a hard time - he suffers from depression, and was off work at the time due to this - though i don't think this condones any of his actions, neither did/do most of the people he drinks in the pub with, - there was some build up to the fight though from what i can gather.... but again nothing to provoke this reaction.... your infos a bit wrong- there are no bouncers at the dove n rainbow, haven't been for at least the last 8 years..... when the imposter posted i was racking my brains about a fight, though when you posted i remembered this one had taken place (i'm not in there that often anymore)... this has been the only serious incident i can think of from the last 5-7 years, as goldenfleece points out - whilst the pub may not be to everyones taste decor wise/beer wise/music wise, it's got to be one of the safest places to drink in central sheffield in terms of incidents...
  7. trouble is they don't have the singer any more, it's one of the brass guys who does it, and they ain't anywhere as good as they were... some people have seen them recently so word is around that they aren't as good, so you'd see a dip in attendance.... grapes, dnr live or cricketers are still your best bets...
  8. this friday 11th November at DnR Live, 7pm start.... Voodoo Glow Skulls - the legendary ska punks from the US plus Freaks Union, Grown at Home and the arguments then the follwoing Saturday 19th November Streetlight Manifesto, Crack Rock Steady 7 (leftover Crack side project), Uncle Brian, Mingers, Infested, $up, Random Hand this ones at the Plug.... should assuage your skankin needs....
  9. the cricketers and grapes are fine with punk gigs, myself and rich (bickles cab) hold about 50 punk gigs a year between us in sheffield, both at these two venues and DnR live and Zero (the plug), we've had one incident at Zero and one at the Grapes - both the same lad. i'm afraid your experience is just that, your experience, we're welcome (in fact more than welcome) at all the other venues - After city invasion this summer at The Foundry (Sheff Uni) where we had around 900 punks & skins in, the bar manager actually told Penny it made a change to deal with a pleasant crowd... ultimately punk shows involve pretty hectic dancing, it was never a sedate scene, the rough and tumble goes hand in hand with the music.... if you want sedate & polite book shoe gazing indie... Dave - as carcrash said you need a PA for the cricketers, but on the other hand they only charge a nominal hire fee - or it may be free depending on the night etc, the grapes is only slightly bigger and charge £60-£80 or something in that region but has a PA and an engineer (who is there solely to turn off all the monitors and mic up your stuff just to turn it all off and complain that your backline is too loud)... but the bands you've listed unless you can get them to play on a door take and then charge a cheap door £3 or something won't get that big a crowd in sheffield - there's not much of a traditional Oi scene left - and the other punk bands you've listed mean nothing to none of the younger punk kids.. they're not big fans of the whole reforming bands scenario....
  10. deadline - one of the top UK oi/streetpunk bands + burnsubvertdestroy+ worm + scum dnr live october 29th #should cater for all your Oi needs... no rules for all the info
  11. i put on quite a few shows at zero and they always are 14+, not sure whether the new venue will have this policy, but ringing the club is the best bet
  12. the dove and rainbow is about as alternative as it gets, it's in hartshead square behind the bankers draft/pizza hut on high street... normally has some punks and metallers in, with some indie kids and goths.... jukebox ranges from clash/pistols/exploited via maiden/sabbath/metallica to stone roses/smiths/pop will eat itself.... landlord is a die hard poppies/wonderstuff fan.... decor is cool as well, paper mache metallers, punks, skins and rastas on the wall, tiger and leopard print is de rigour for the chairs and the DJ booth is half a caravan.... there's no other pub in sheffield like it.... always a good atmosphere and has tables outside so it's not too warm in hot weather... apart from that the Nelson, Washington, Sportsman, Devonshire cat are the other accepted alternative pubs...
  13. there's also loads of punk bands in sheffield, who exist completely under the radar of the popular music press / promoters etc yet are probably more succesful than their "indie" cousins....and normally out live the quick flash in the pan bands as well.... Bickles Cab - been around over 5 years, 2 albums out, a single and numerous compilation appearances, off this september for their 6th euro tour, these are pretty brutal political hc punk, normally to be seen in sheffield at least once every couple of months BurnSubvertDestroy - only in existance a year but spawned from a couple of bands who were in existance in the 90's, they've just played the London astoria to 1600 as part of an all day punk fest, also been to europe twice, album due out soon, numerous comp appearances.... more melodic punk, sorta early 80's sound but with bigger singalong choruses...interview and playback on total rock radio sometime soon... then we have Power Corrupts - fast punk with the odd ska break....keep an eye on these.... Narcotix - 100 mph hc thrash, they share a couple of members with power corrupts yet have a completely different sound... again another band going places the Legacy - straightforward HC are also huge in europe, i beleive they are off later this month for a fourth time, just completed a UK tour... also around are the stigmatix, earth od, the hyeanas and probably some more i've forgotten....
  14. yeah mike muir has a recurring back injury, which he actually toured with last time they came over, and ended with him having injections before the start of every show, just to get through 45-60 minutes... it flared up again before this tour so the german promoters postponed to give him time to get over it.... return your ticket to whence it was purchased and they will refund in full
  15. yeah sorry to say but the misfits were turned back by the UK customs. Robo the drummer, whilst living in the US for the past 25 odd years actually travels on a Columbian passport, and although he had a UK work permit granted he also needed a working Visa granted by the US showing he was a US resident (the work permit was granted to a US resident) , this he can only obtain in person in the US.... it was an oversight on their side really but it's not the first band it's happened to (the Casualties and Agnostic Front both have members travelling on south american passports and have encountered the same problem - i think they assume if they get a UK wrok permit that's the problem solved) and they'd not had this problem in any other European country... still it was a pretty solid bill before they were added.... Exploited, Agnostic Front and the US Bombs are worth the entry fee alone.... and yes we didn't have anything fully confirmed that they wouldn't be entering till thursday morning, and with the sad events in London, no one could really get anything moving on a replacement till today, so it's been decided to just lengthen the sets of most of the bands - so most of the bands will now have 45 minute sets instead of the customary 30 at festivals....
  16. i think localised ranks would be a good thing too.... one in woodseats would get good trade, broomhall, etc etc.... though i do agree i thought they had to ply their trade and I have also had them drive past me when flagged only to stop 25 yards up the road....
  17. i haven't actually, i've obviously got all the Truth Decay ones, the Slopdosh one, i think i've got a couple more knocking around but that's it, i'll have a word with Jake and Rich see if they have any....
  18. well next time your back in sheffield if you come on a weekend most of the newer punks will be at the doven rainbow.... unless theres bands playing, this sunday most of the bands are at the DnR live, which means quite a few old faces will be out n about.... otherwise come to the city invasion for a full on nostalgia fest, i'm sure froggy and pat can chuck you around a bit to make it feel like the old days... i'll dig some old photo's i've got of chaos uk at the hallamshire cos i know your in a couple....
  19. I've updated the list with as much info as i can remember all the bands i've added info on i've made bold dog soldier - kev became a p/t lecturer at sheff uni.. G.G.F - john (singer) has some merry go rounds n kids rides i think.... bad blood / face first were the same band they just swapped instruments and renamed themselves ( they not truth decay toured with government issue on the UK tour and crashed their van, hence the next GI album being called crash!) those three bands split up early 90's and one member from each formed truth decay which i joined in 93 (i think?!) bastion systematic annexe (my first ever gig, back in 1986 at the hallamshire hotel, they also featured on a motorhate comp album) Moral justice the bland (from chesterfield - went to a party once at theres, thats when i first met jools, see the dwarf and a clipboard man thread) deathtrash - murray fenton is in the ****wits now goodbye toulouse (jools was the roadie) amnesia slopdosh bobar and ivan crump - i've still got their demo, you came to wath and saw em with us didn't you?? midnight choir? muzzle club / bendy monsters - bendy monsters still exist i think... bad taste radiacs bedlam choir lilac confusion human perogrative plague dogs corpse grinders - a couple of em went on to form WORM, who still exist to this day... slbc psychoterrorism research unit media premonition FCS (F*** City S*******) - moses is still around durango 95 ed 209 blind mole rat - became spitboy didn't they? astrids food various vegetables - signed to warp did a single and promptly split up head smokescreen soundsystem dr restart ant wrapsmiths (wath upon dearne band) dog on a rope - were from Leeds, though Rob lead singer now lives in sheffield elfin longpigs - one of em joined joe strummer and mescaleros wax lyrical ju ju city me freezer brained cus cus shell drug free america others you forgot cosa nostra exit the grind dollar babies
  20. well, well well... melthebell i used to sit and have the odd (or loads) beverage with you and jools at the fountain on fargate till you moved away with your g/f to go travelling, i used to have a large red mohican, (i now have a small bleached one)... I joined Truth Decay in 94, and stayed with them til they folded in 98.... It was jakes previous band - bad blood (who later all swapped intruments and renamed themselves face first) who toured with Gi but it was in the UK not the US, as Truth decay we went to Europe 5 times, but never to the USA... Darren got chucked out in 95 he's now a bus driver... both me (Stu) and rich are still active in the punk scene... i do No Rules and rich does smaller DIY shows at Bickles Cab we don't really see any of the older punk guys you know at any gigs though, although the bigger punk shows will see some familiar faces, all the Mau Maus were out when the Dickies played sheffield a couple of years back, Pat (Crog) and Froggy are at most uk82 type punk shows, Tommy (slopdosh) is still around, Chizz and Mick from Septic Psychos are at most gigs... GGF john comes out to most of the US Stuff..... TommyToxen - not sure whether our punk scene needs reviving though? it's stronger than most towns in the UK, often getting upwards of 100 just for local shows with the bigger ones pulling way more...(this year alone we've put on shows for Lars & ********, Tiger Army, Test Tubes, Leftover Crack etc) this week alone we have 3 shows, Sunday 3rd at DnR live theres an all dayer with 11 bands for £5 including, power corrupts, kill the lights, BSD, Vomit Mob, Legacy, The plight... wednesday 6th theres Demarch and A Brigade form the czech republic with some local supports then Saturday 9th there's City Invasion 2005 presented by yours truly at sheff uni, featuring the Exploited, the Misfits, Agnostic Front, the US bombs, murphys law and 5 uk bands.... the corp concentrates mainly on modern and classic metal now, the Leadmill is more indie orientated, both have some of the more modern US stuff on their playlists, i do most of the big punk stuff but don't do it there, good smaller venues would be the Grapes (100), DnR live (250 cap) or Zero (450).... though one song a band isn't much... maybe slim it down from 20 bands... like i said we have plenty of punk shows already so you'll be competing in quite a saturated market
  21. cheers rubysoho LittlestLass if you like your ska, you should seriously consider the gig the next night cos Sonic Boom 6 are immense, Grown at home are the offspring of Lightyear even down to various band members getting nekkid... Gigs in Zero are no different to any other club, we are subverting from within.... soon they will all join us.... mwahahah
  22. it's fine, it's laid out reasonably compact as it's not a huge club, but the sound is spot on...nice height stage, no ****ty barrier, clean toilets, once you get over the place looking neat which most venues that hold punk/ska/hc shows don't usually, it's a great place... nice staff, good doormen, all round good place really.... if you don't mind me asking where do you normally see bands? the only places iin sheffield that have em are clubs n pubs? beer prices are normal nightclub prices £2.40ish for a pint and the beer within the glass will resemble what the pump says which is a novelty for some of sheffields nightclubs, bottled lager is £1.80 for one of em...can't remember which, dunno about spirits not my thing.... i'm the guy doing the show anyway, so hope you enjoy it, feedback on all the shows i've had there has been the most positive of any i've used (the people who've taken time to email rate it better than Corp, Grapes etc)
  23. the tickets will go into the dove and jacks etc next monday, at present they are only available from http://www.no-rules.co.uk and see tickets... they only play Sheffield, London and the NASS festival near Bath, so basically the entire north of the country and scotland and ireland will all descend upon sheffield for this show!!! The Napalm death show is also one of only 2 northern dates, (they also do Newcastle)
  24. i'm the guy doing those 2 shows... as stated above it has an excellent sound system, all the bands we've had there have sounded great, almost a novelty in Sheffield to hear a band crystal clear through some of the PA's our "venues" provide, it's also fairly compact in front of the band so gets a great atmosphere, also it has a fairly low stage so the band are right in yer face....and you can be in theirs drinks prices are on a par with every other sheffield venue, and the beer tastes nice too, not like some chemically laced s**te... the door staff monitor the front door but keep a low profile inside, you won't even notice they're there, BTW Suicidal is on sale online already and is selling well fast - it's taken me by surprise I can tell you.....
