  1. I was the original op in this. I am a mum of a 4 year old, my partner works away Mon-Fri and I work full time in a job that bears a lot of responsibility. I do pay attention to important matters, pay all of my bills on time and for those of you that have previously commented on my finances I am not extremely well off but I am fortuante enough to live in a household where two people work full time. Our wages are not the same every month and as my insurance policy was at a cost of £290 rather than the several hundred suggested by someone earlier I didn't notice that money had not been removed from my account. For the reasons mentioned abvoe I simply do not have the time or feel the need to sit pouring over the very many transactions on my bank statement every month and really only look if I feel there has been a problem. I have been in contact with a solicitor and my insurance company. The insurance company are forwarding me all documentation including tape recordings of phone calls regarding the matter. I will always be guilty of driving without insruance which I said form the outset that I knew once I spoke with the police officer and accepted. However I will be attending court to show my Special Reasons for driving without insurance in the hope that I can mitigate the circumstances. The conviction will always stand, I've never tried to get away with anything and have never had so much as a speeding ticket, never been in trouble with police, over tax or anything previously. I was not driving around with no isnruance because I thought I could get away with it and to be honest if that was the case why would I have started a thread on here?!
  2. For all those of you who seem most interested in my finances, I have never seen September's bank statement as I think I've previously said it's with the accoutant. My insurance was only £280, not several hundred, my partner and I are fortunately both in full time employment and although we are by no means well off when you have all of your house hold bills going out and my partner is self employed so his wages aren't the same every month without sitting and pouring over a statement (which I didn't have that month as I've already said twice) how would I have known no money had been removed?- if indeed that is correct because I need to speak to my bank today to confirm. I have decided to speak to a solicitor today who actually knows something about traffic law and weigh up my options. In the mean time my complaint is logged with the insurance company and I have requested all of my records and any tape recording of phone calls between myself and their staff and also this one where apparently someone has tried to call me. I have also asked that they check their phone records for my mobile number and house number for any calls that they believe they have made. I am also going to make contact with the Financial Ombudsman for advice on what an insurance company should be doing in such circumstances and whether they should be folowing any particular procedure in cancelling a policy etc by way of sending a letter.
  3. I'm not signed up for it, someone has nicked my details before through the internet. I'm assuming the money never went anyway otherwise there wouldn't have been a problem with the payment. My query was more for people with knowledge of mitigating in court, as I previously said I am aware it's an absolute offence.
  4. Actually I paid with my debit card in one go, so no there were no monthly outgoings and as it happens my bank statement for that particular month is with my partner's accountant sorting out his books. There was no reason to think there was any problem- I was told the card payment was fine when I purchased the insurance. I didnt ask for your sympathy just for advice on how to deal. Unless there's a mega problem because I know as a family we have sufficient funds going in and out for everything I don't rake through our bank statement with a fine tooth comb.
  5. Today I got stopped by the police for driving without insurance.....news to me as I am the proud owner of an Insure insurance certificate insuring me from 12th September 2011 for 12 months. However it would appear that the cheeky monkeys at my insurance company have cancelled my insurance as there was something wrong with my debit card details and never bothered to tell me!!!! I have been issued with a £200 Fixed Penalty Notice and 6 points on my license. I can afford to pay this however I am not wanting to accept the 6 points as it will more than double my premiums. I have never received any phone call or letter from my insurance company to say that there was a problem or to inform me that my policy had been cancelled. Fortunately I was able to purchase insurance at the roadside and didn't end up having my car seized. I appreciate that driving without insurance is an absolute offence i.e. not need to prove intent, you have it or your don't however I was wondering whether it might be worth my while in going to Magistrates' Court to explain the circumstances re the insurance policy and try and mitigate on the offence? Any ideas appreciated. I have logged a complaint with the insurance compnay. They have told me they tried to ring me but could not get through so they cancelled the policy though they are unable to say what number they called from or at what time- is it just me or how can I trust they called at all?!
  6. I can't strike on Wednesday, but would like to express my support for everyone that is. It is not fair to work your whole adult life, expecting to be able to retire at a particular age and maintain a reasonable standard of living for the government to say actually you are going to have to work longer, pay more contributions and get less pension as well.
  7. Depending on what you are after, I got my son some Toy Story marbles at Homes Bargains off the Parkway for about £3. They came in a tin with 3 or 4 packets inside, he's over the moon with them and if he loses any, we've got plenty more!
  8. The dogs at Owlerton Stadium, bowling, Napoleon's Casino- suppose it depends who's going and how much you want to pay. I know someone who works in an all female office, they are going for a spa day at Titanic Spa in Huddersfield and the spa is putting on food for them.
  9. cyclone, I hope they did! I'm not so sure though, if they had a contract with a solicitor for conveyancing I'm fairly sure they would have had an arrangement with a surveyor. We lost about 3k which was money we had saved up to move. We didn't have to go without anything, fortuantely, but it did mean that we've had to spend time saving up that money again in case we do decide to put the house back on the market. For normal working people like us 3k was a fair old amount of money- if we thought we were going to just waste it I would have at least spent it on something good like a holiday!
  10. Actually in my case no they didn't lose anything... they have quite a number of buy to let properties and as such had a contract with a conveyancing solicitor based on they could have as many transactions as they liked for a set price and they were buying with cash so no mortgage was required. I honestly think they intended to lead us somewhere because I've since found out they put several offers in on different houses waited until they were due to exchange contracts (which had been delayed for so long it was close to or on the moving date) then did the same to other buyers that would not reduce their price at the 11th hour. For some people money is no object and they obviously have no consideration whatsoever about the situation they land people in! I felt really stupid and angry that I didn't realise their game at the time, what can I say other than it was an extremely expensive lesson to learn. I also felt really awful because the next people in the chain were moving from a house to a bungalow as one of them was really ill.
  11. We had something similar happen to us last year, we foolishly agreed to exchange contracts and move on the same day so our entire house was packed up (no easy exercise with a 2 year old!) when our buyer, who was in the buy to let market pulled out. In essence at the 11th hour he tried to get us to reduce the price but we refused as we would have been unable to afford the house we were going to move to. I was absolutely devestated and we ended up paying out mortgage application/survey/solicitors fees for absolutely nothing. Legally there is nothing that can be done until contracts are exchanged and do think our system is unfair and that particularly in this current climate there are lots of nasty people about just waiting to lead you up the garden path. All I can say from my own experience is that things will get better with time. At least the baby hasn't arrived yet- things would have been even worse if you'd packed away cot and all of it's stuff for nothing.
  12. Hi I am looking for an Ofsted registered childminder to pick up my son from Gleadless nursery on a Wednesday at 11.30 druing term time only. I would prefer someone who also does an Intake Primary School run as we are in the Intake catchment area and in all likelihood that's where he will be going in Sep 2012 at which point I will need someone to collect him Mon-Weds afternoon. If you have any vacancies or know someone who does please send me a PM.
  13. I have one child of 3 and 2 adults at my house, most weeks I have enough room for 1 more bag of rubbish in my black bin, however when I had a baby using disposable nappies and milk boxes I could just about get the bin lid shut. If the council does a black bin collection once a fortnight I can imagine people with little children especially say a baby and a toddler will be totally stuck, my street has a number of families with young children- are we going to be over run with nappy sacks?! It's not the sort of rubbish you can recycle or take to the tip, I appreciate that people should consider recycling but in a world wherre both parents have to work full time, washable nappies for small children wouldn't be practical!
  14. I could be wrong but I think it's shut (just the enquiry desk not the police station)- I think they just have enquiry desks at Ecclesfield, Moss Way and Snig Hill now-if you go on the SYP website it describes contact at Attercliffe as being by post . The intercom on the outside of the police station takes you the through to the control room that you will also get by ringing 0114 2202020 not to anyone inside the building. The thing with ringing up is at least someone will answer 24/7, if you go down to a nick there isn't always someone there to speak to you especially if you are after a police officer rather than the enquiry desk.
  15. I get loads of prints from memory card, Asda is ok as is Boots (Boots are cheaper if you downlaod them online then collect the prints or have them sent to your home address), both shops have the facility to get photos from CD/DVD. If you decide to edit your photos at all, i.e. cut bits off them, make sure that you preview them before you print them especially at Asda as the pictures look tiotally different when printed. The best place I've got photos printed in terms of quality was Costco and their extra products like photo canvas, books etc are really reasonably priced.
