  1. i went to look round and didnt join...thought it was overpriced for what the facilitys were..no pool, sauna,s etc...better value can be found at virgin etc...but if your looking more locally have a look into council run venues belive theres one at Aston poss the school inc use of the pool.. youd be able to use your membership at other venues such as norton sports centre too... Prices around £26.99 per month

I'm at Aston, its in the Rotherham area and you are entitled to use Council facilities in that area not any in Sheffield. I pay £26 a month and it includes the pool and all the exercise classes. I feel its great value for money

  2. I thought I'd drop in to the new 'Spoons and check what's been done to the old Aunt Sallys building - they've been doing some good work restoring some of the character of the place outside (only to be turning it into something 'faceless' by branding, admittedly).

However, I didn't stay there long, as they've deemed it fit to instate a pay and display scheme where you have to either pay for a ticket or if you spend more than £10 in the pub they'll refund you.

Cheek of it! It's not a bad idea to stop people using the car park unnecessarily, but it's unbelievable that an out-of-town pub would want to charge you to drop in for a quick pint. And to put a £10 minimum spend on it?!!!

Aren't they shooting themselves in the foot by starting off with this ridiculous car parking charge?

As its difficult parking around that area its hardly surprising - I've seen people using the car park who've been to the hospital - can't blame them really!

  3. This raises a question about the morality of visiting an oppressive tyranny such as Castro's Cuba. Tourist revenues are making an appreciable contribution to the survival of the regime, by propping up its basket case of an economy. It might also be said that every tourist who visits Castro's Cuba is (wittingly or not) legitimising a vile regime.

you may be right but I also know without tourists the Cuban people would be a lot worse off as the tips they get help them to buy necessities such as shoes, soap, toilet paper. A guide who showed us around Havana went for 3 yrs as a child with no shoes on her feet -would we be able to cope, I doubt it!

  4. Went last March and had a brilliant time. The weather the 2nd week wasn't as good as we hoped but we enjoyed it nevertheless. Went to havana and stayed overnight and wouldn't have missed it. Also did the sugar and steam trip and sunset cruise on a Catamaran.

Re booking a hotel - stretch yourself to the most you can afford. Their 3 star is more like our 2. We were lucky enough to be able to stay at Paradisus Princessa at Varadero and it was fantastic.

Ignore the remarks about it being like Spain. Its nothing like it. To be honest there's not a lot to do at Varadero but that's part of the experience of going to Cuba. I found Cuba beautiful and fascinating but also sad that people have to life in such difficult circumstances.

I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

  5. Its lovely - we had a 2 night break up there 2 weekends ago. Looked round Durham on Saturday, did Beamish on Sunday, drove home Monday am as it was throwing it down with rain.

We stayed at Redworth Hall Hotel about 20 mins from Durham - got a 2 night B&B with dinner on first night deal cost £170 for a double room. Loverly - they've got a gym, pool, sauna, steam room - had a great weekend and were lucky enough to get a room upgrade, can't recommend it enough!

  6. Hi Does anyone know where Sarah at Loaf went to? She was great and need to find her.

    thanks

Don't know but she used to cut my hair at Eckington. I'd followed her there just over a year ago from Handsworth. She seemed to be happy at Eckington salon and then jumped ship to Loaf and left after a fortnight. she's a great stylist but not very happy to stay in one place. Decided I'm not gunna try to find her again!!

  7. Went to Loaf when it first opened and was very happy and booked another appointment for 6 weeks later, went back on Friday to find the stylist had left and no one had bothered to tell me and what looked like an 16yr old was going to cut my hair. No real apology, they had my telephone number so should have informed me. Ended up walking out and going elsewhere. Not a good way to treat customers.

wondering if your appt was with Sarah. If it was she only worked there 2 wks and left - I'd followed her there from a salon at Eckington and they didn't let me know beforehand either although I did get a good cut from Richard but decided too expensive for me to keep going there!
