  3. Hi I've a big pile of garden waste/soil that i'd like to get shifted from my house in Crookes... Interested? Give me a buzz on 07966796581 to quote. Thanks Dan
  4. The Deep End will be 8 years on the 5th November, I opened it in 1997 after 14 months of Licence ranglings and refurbishment works. I sold the venue in May 2002 after becoming slightly disillusioned with the business after loosing a whole load of cash opening a venue in Chesterfield (more fool me) and to concentrate on my Sheffield Centre bar and other business interests. I have to say a big thank you to everyone who posted positive messages on the various threads on the forum, the people who have stopped me in the street, sent me messages and the press who’ve been covering this in the press over the last week for there kind words. The Deep End was a great place; it was driven by a passionate team who thoroughly enjoyed making customers happy with diverse entertainment and good service. Alright we had our ups and downs and fair share of bother, but I like to think that we provided a good night out. At its height we regularly attracted 5000 people and employed 25 + staff. I have to say that I think the best team had to be headed Ian Wilson, who was manager right up till the sale. Paul Hall, Paul Thompson, Roo, Little Jon and Zara, also made a valuable contribution as well as Kathryn Turner who worked the bar for the whole of the 5 years I was involved. Cheers Also while I’m saying thanks, lets not forget the Artists, Russ Weaver, Julian Jones, Sass (I think my first DJ), DJ Smokey J, Digit AKA Paul, Dave Van Keys, Lionel Vinyl and Ian Cracknall did spots for a while as well as about 400 bands and thousands of musicians on the can u jam nights (and Days). I don’t really think I did this when I sold back in 2002, I guess bumping in to Russ and Julian the other night spurred me on, a bit of an obituary if you like. While Can U Jam still went on I guess that I thought something may have been salvaged. Today, it was reported that it was in the hands of the receivers and will carry on trading while a new operator is found. So if you used to enjoy the place, thanks for coming. Let’s hope they get someone good in, I might even pay it a return visit. Cheers Dan Brookman
  5. You've hit on some of the best areas of Sheffield although Crookes is probably a little less expensive than the other 3 (dependant on your budget. You might also try Netheredge of which some areas are a little crap but on the whole is very nice. Sheffield in general is a very green city, certainly crookes has a lot of tree lined streets with medium sized properties with nice gardens. Good luck on finding somewhere.
  6. True that the floor is over the shallow end, but the building isn't listed at all. Nice to know that the Can U Jam sessions are still running.
  7. I think that the Devonshire Cat and the Fat Cat can be included. They each make a valuable contribution to the city, the owner also has interests (or used to) in Champs. Muse is part of Dogma Bars who are based in Nottingham. Again i would also include them as the group size is about 5.
  8. Hey Joe. I'd be interested in attending an entrepreneurs meeting if you want to set one up. I may be able to offer some advice to other members through my own past experience. I may also pick up some useful tips along the way myself. Let me know, Cheers Dan
  9. Which do you think is the best independently owned bar or restaurant in Sheffield. It cannot be part of a chain - so no 'all bar ones' or 'nandos' It can however be part of a large brewery or pub company as long as they have no management involvement. We are looking to put a website together to help promote local independent venues. Have a think, if your not sure, then post your nominations and I’ll look into it.
  10. This is a new English restaurant that’s opened on Devonshire Green. Really great food and service, I hear that they're going to be open for breakfast pretty soon. Anyhow, check it out.
  11. The Forum is just waiting for an inspection from the authorities and is hoping to open at 8pm. Hats off to them for turning it round in such a short space of time!
  12. The Forum are going to try and reopen this evening. They have been busy clearing up and reglazing all day. For information go to http://www.forumsheffield.co.uk. They will be issuing an email later on. I will keep people informed as i find anything out.
  13. You could give lions lair a go, the foods excellant and the atmosphere is quite intimate and comfy. they have a website at http://www.lionslair.co.uk
  14. Personally I rate the Lions lair. it's great to go somewhere which is intimate where the staff will happily bring you over a drink to your table with much less formality. check out the website - http://www.lionslair.co.uk
  15. That's typical of Sheffield! I think Living Rooms (really nice pub co) were looking at that place and got knocked back. Now there will be another sh*t pub in another beautiful building (think walkabout). Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad.
