  1. My husband has asked me to make a good old fashioned tatie hash and dumplings for tea one day this week. I've tried making it before but not very successfully as the potatoes dissolved to nothing and the rest of the veg were still under cooked. Could anybody kindly give me fool proof step by step instructions please?
  2. Isn't this yet another thread, similar to the one started by waxonwaxoff about her daughter believing in Father Christmas, meant to be tongue in cheek and light hearted but being taken far too seriously by some posters? Some people really need to chill out and lighten up!
  3. I have been following this thread although at times, especially since Sandaz3 joined in, I've felt that i shouldn't as I've had the feeling that I've been reading someone's private letters or diary. I agree with doyle that both Jason and Sandaz3 have been courageous for posting and thank you to both of you for sharing your story and thoughts with us. I don't think any of us (as outsiders) have any right to judge either of you as we only know snippets of what really happened and don't know the whole family history and facts. What you have discovered and had to deal with about your past has obviously been very painful and difficult to come to terms with and my heart goes out to you both. Jason, please keep us updated in your search for Nicky and as to whether the person Danny has links with could be him. I really hope it is and that both you and your sister are able to have a good relationship with him in the future.
  4. PM me your address and I will send you a sixpence.
  5. You can unlock most phones on this site for free. Hope it helps. http://www.trycktill.com/eng/unlock_swe.asp
  6. Hi Martin I'm not sure whether this info will be of any help to you but my father (born 1914) had a younger sister, Jessie, who was married to a Fred Crossland. I know nothing about him but am wondering if he could have been the brother of Edna and Elsie? Fred and Jessie had a number of children who still live in the Sheffield area, I believe.
  7. What a shocking story! Human error or not, it should never have been allowed to happen and I hope the person responsible is punished.
  8. No, of course you're not a bad owner. I'm sure something similar has happened to most of us. Thank goodness Molly hadn't wandered very far and you soon found her safe and well.
  9. BlackVelvet, 'If it should be' is the first poem I was looking for. Thanks for the others also. Strix, Sorry I can't remember any of the lines from the other one I wanted as I only read it the once. I think one line was similar to this: "If you should find me asleep upon a chair..." and another had: "but this is my home too" or "I live here too" (Sorry, that's probably not very helpful ) I think the poster was a regular on Pets Forum and I was hoping he/she would know the one I meant. I'm pretty new to computers and more than useless I shall have to learn how to copy and paste (or whatever it is you do to save things) instead of waiting for one of my sons to do it for me. Thanks again to all of you for being so helpful.
  10. No, sorry, that's not the one I meant, Danielle69 but I love that one and will put it really low down on my fridge door. Can't promise either of my dogs or the cat will read and stick to the rules, though its worth a try. :D
  11. Thanks everyone... I've found some lovely poems to send to my friend and also the link to the Rainbowbridge video. (When my hubby came in from work, he found me sobbing my heart out watching it). Strix, I'm afraid that poem I'm looking for describes our house to a T:blush: and I intended to frame it and hang it in the hallway to warn new visitors what to expect. Thanks for searching for it and if I do find it before you do, I'll certainly let you know. I only found SF a few weeks ago and haven't a clue who posted it but don't think it was on a very old thread though.
  12. Thanks for your replies. dlee has sent me the first poem but I'm still searching for the second one. I tried doing a search for dog poems.... it came up with a thread about 'legal graffiti sites'
  13. I'm searching for a couple of poems which I'm sure I read on this forum and now can't find them. One is about a dog being put to sleep and is telling the owner not to feel guilty about it, as the dog had a happy life and understands that the owner did what was for the best. (My friend is heart broken as she has just had to have her beloved dog put to sleep and I'm sure she would find some comfort from this particular poem) The other poem was along the lines of: this is my pet's home too, so if you don't like the smell or being covered in hairs-hard luck! (only much better put than that). Sorry I can't give any more to go on but if any of you remember reading or posting either poem and could help me find them, I'd be very grateful.
  14. Most supermarkets should sell Maple Syrup. I think you'll probably find it near to the ice cream freezers, along with the wafers, chocolate sauce etc.
  15. My son has learning difficulties and has a statement of SEN but goes to mainstream school. He is nearly 15 and in year 10, so this year he will sit the first of his GCSE exams. His attainment grades are U's although it is hoped that he may reach target grades of G or F in some subjects by the end of year 11. For a number of reasons, we are unable to take our family holiday during the school summer holidays so we usually go away during the last week in June/first week in July and have never had a problem with getting permission to take our son out of school at this time. Last July, when we booked this year's holiday, we believed that exams would be over by mid June, otherwise we would have booked to go a week or two later. We have now learned that he is due to sit a Maths and a Science exam whilst we are away. Because of this, we don't expect permission to be granted so will probably be fined if we take him out of school. We feel we have 3 options, which are: 1. Be prepared to pay the fine and go ahead with the planned holiday, as whether our son takes these exams or not will probably not affect his future because it is unlikely that he will ever be capable of having a proper job or living an independent life. 2. Change the holiday dates so that we go away 1 or 2 weeks later and pay a substantial increase to the cost of the holiday + fees for changing the dates. 3. Cancel the holiday altogether and lose the £400 deposit already paid, which would mean we couldn't have a holiday this year. It would also mean that my son would be bitterly disappointed as going away on holiday is one of the few things he has any real enthusiasm about. What would you advise/suggest we do?
