  1. Also found reference for school records held at Sheffield Archives, period 1887-2004. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/sidocs.asp?SIR=O116074 Did the school open in 1887? Both my mother and my grandmother (who was born in nineteen hundred and eight), attended the school but I do not know when it actually opened. Anyone know for certain? Leipzig
  2. Found this info relating to what is proposed for the old building - demolition. http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:fupdbXgp8-cJ:www.sheffield.gov.uk/EasySite/lib/serveDocument.asp%3Fdoc%3D47463%26pgid%3D64963+sharrow+school&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=16&gl=uk
  3. Excellent -that works, thanks cgksheff. I thought that search would only find a text string in the "body text" of a file or in the file name but your tip works fine. Regards Leipzig
  4. Hi I am looking for information relating to the history of the Attercliffe Liberal Club, located at the corner of Attercliffe Road and Beverley Street, Sheffield. My grandparents were stewards there in the 1950s.
  5. Hi My computer is running Windows XP. I have a lot of pictures on the hard disk, and I record information about each of them in the 'Comments' field (i.e. right click file - Properties - Summary Tab - Comments). Is there a utility available which will enable me to search for information about a picture, with reference to the 'Comments' field?

I used to wag off from assembly by doing that bloody weather station. Who was that lad who was excellent at rounders and used to hit the ball over the wall as he was left- handed. I think that he used to live in Club Garden Road ?" Hi TREATMENT (John) I remember you. Your hearthrob attended Rowlinson sixth form about 1972, after that I don't know.
  7. Hi Mauz Thank you for your offer. I will PM you with my email address as soon as I have enough postings. Kind regards Leipzig
  8. Hi Mauz Yes you are quite correct. His name was John Eward TURNER (a retired miner) and he lived there with his wife Flora. I don't think he lived there all that long before he died. His death notice in the paper said that he had previouly lived at 174 Ecclesall Road. May I ask, are you the same person who displayed material about the Manor Castle village in the Central Libray a few years ago? I seem to remember photos of one or two of the cottages but not 205 Manor Lane where my relatives lived. Kind regards Leipzig
  9. Hi Mauz Can't help you with the building date for the cottages, but yes I remember them as a very young child. In fact my great grandfather died at 205 Manor Lane on 01/05/1958. He lived in the first cottage after the ruins, next to the rough ground. I would be very interested in seeing the 1850's map of the cottages, but do not have enough postings on the site to be able to send you a PM.
  10. Hi Only_Me Are you sure that you've got the correct name for the school. I seem to remember that the school on Cecil Road was called "Cecil Road School", and St Barnabas school was on Alderson Road - a small Church of England school. If I am correct, St Barnabas school is still there - now the showroom of the Discount Bed company.
  11. I am looking to purchase speech recognition software, but one of the minimum requirements is: Creative® Labs Sound Blaster® 16 or equivalent sound card supporting 16-bit recording. How do I determine what the specification of my sound card is? I have checked System Properties - Hardware - Device Manager - Sound, video and game controllers, but cannot find anything there which seems to answer the question. I purchased my Packard Bell imedia computer in January 2002.
  12. I remeber Mr Wall was the swimming instructor at Heeley Baths in the 1960's - quite strict, but a good instructor.
  13. There was a Blaskeys on London Road, opposite the end of Alderson Road. Spent many a happy hour trimming the end of the rolls of wallpaper my mother bought from that shop.
