  2. Volunteer Project to ‘Learn how to teach reading and writing’ MaTReC, SAVTE and MCDT are working in partnership on a unique project. You don’t need a qualification to teach as a volunteer and this project aims to train a group of volunteers to work with people who have little or no reading and writing skills. Can you answer Yes to the following questions? • Are you interested in making a difference to someone’s life? • Can you work in a supportive way? • Do you want to gain teaching experience? • Are you interested in working with the local community? If you have answered Yes, then read on! We will: • provide the training you need to work with individuals on a one-to-one basis • provide regular support so that you can tell us if you are happy with your role • reimburse out of pocket expenses for travel and meals (where applicable) • provide any necessary resources What we want from you • 3½ hours every Friday for 6 weeks to undertake the training • Commitment of your time for 6 months • To hold a GCSE English or level 2 equivalent qualification • Your patience For whatever reason, some people did not do well in education but now realise, that to help them move on in life and work, they need help. These people have fallen through the net and the pressure they are under is weighing very heavy. Many organisations, including the Salvation Army, Jobcentre plus and Remploy are referring people on a regular basis to MaTReC for support. In response to this, funding has now been secured to train 10 volunteers and pilot an initial series of sessions to individuals. Contact us ASAP on 0114 2642194 if you feel you will beable to offer your time!

  15. Hi, Were an adult training centre in Sheffield, we are getting alot of learners qualifications but they also in need of relevant experience in their chosen vocational area to help them gain employment. Are there any employers out there that would be willing to take an adult learner on work experience for a half/full day per week for 10 weeks so they can gain their certificates. All settings/vocational areas considered, especially want finance, administration and IT positions. This is a course, so learners would be working for employers for experience and knowledge not payment, completely free of charge to the employer! Please PM me if you would be interested in helping a mature adult learner gain the experience they need to succeed. Thanks
