  1. From Hillsborough I go either along the Penistone Road cycle track, through Kelham, and across the lights to Bridge Street/across the crossing to Allen Street and onto Gibraltar to West Bar, or I go along Langsett, over to Meadow Street and across the lights to Scotland Street. I wouldn't use the ring road to get to town. My preferred routes are much quieter.
  2. I found out when boarding the bus that City Wide day tickets have gone up by 20p too, now £4.50. Guessing the weekly etc will have as well?
  3. I use a different but similar Android app, I think they all take their data from the same source. Still very useful though. I think if it says, for example, "5 mins", then it's taking the actual time from the gps on the bus. If it says, say, "11.44", I think it's just telling you the scheduled time, probably because the bus doesn't have working gps? I don't think it means the bus isn't turning up. But like you I find it so useful.
  4. Signs aren't required for single yellow lines in controlled zones like the city centre. You will have already driven past signs at the zone entry. Unless the restriction is different to the rest of the zone but I don't know if that's allowed.
  5. Yes, especially when you can get a phone (X10, Desire...) that already does pretty much everything the new iphone can do, for a lot less money. There may not be as many apps, but this should change in time. I love iphone, but you don't half pay a lot of money for the benefit of owning one.
  6. The police action was the 28th according to the title of this thread, and like you say traffic didn't appear any different on Monday. Tuesday however was ridiculous, the queuing traffic on Holmes Lane/Malin Bridge/ Stannington Road was worse than I have ever seen...I never heard why though. Was the police work definitely Monday?
  7. You sound like you have your finger on the pulse! I would agree, the wider Stannington area is very mixed and if your prices can reflect that it would be great. We aren't exactly on the breadline, but have to choose what to spend our money on and tea/cakes etc is a treat rather than a regular thing, so keeping your prices low would be great and might encourage us to come. Good luck with it and if the Council refurbishes the playground (which wholly stops us from coming up the hill cos it's so poor) around the same time it would be a real boost, to you and the area in general.
  8. Together with better, improved facilities for children (ie the playground), a cafe would encourage us to the park. However, we don't visit the cafe in Rivelin because, for us, it's simply too expensive for us both to have a piece of cake and a cuppa, it generally sets you back about £6. So we don't bother. So good luck but please keep your prices reasonable!
  9. I agree, you regularly see Ball Road getting more than its fair share of time compared to Holme Lane which then queues more as a result. It's mainly people turning right from Ball Road, but if you made it one-way in I guess it depends on where they then go...down Dykes Lane and therefore joining the queue anyway...thus making the queue longer? I agree with the tram priority but it seems to me Ball Road almosy gets priority over Holme Lane!
  10. My previous post didn't have swearing in, it's blocked out a word that rhymes with a rude one!!!
  11. No, but access is a key issue as this thread is already showing. This is an office block so lots of people need to get there by means other than the car. I was just making the point that capita have built themselves a s****y new building which has poor access for those who don't drive or have access to a parking space.
  12. It really is a rubbish location for non driving staff. It's not particularly close to bus services, is near the tram but not to an actual stop, and pedestrian access isn't easy. And I don't even work there! Surely these issues were ironed out/ agreed with the council as part if the planning conditions??
  13. Nisa - terrible Co-Op - poor Beanies - great but in my opinion serves a different market Bargain Booze - poor Levitt's - ok Tesco would be better than any of these. The fact that they are taking over the world doesn't alter that fact. Like I said earlier, no-one seemed to moan when Nisa came in, nor Bargain Booze. Funny that. But I do agree with comments about the parking issues.
  14. Personally I agree with the OP re the traffic issues, it would cause significant parking problems. However, I don't remember such outcry when Bargain Booze took over the video shop on South Road, or when Nisa took over the old bathroom shop...this seems to be more about Tesco than anything else.
  15. I just wish they would all set our their manifestos for actually governing. None of them actually want to stand up and be judged on their beliefs and policies, they all just chase the vote and want to be popular. Especially the liberals, but Cameron's idea for e-petition being debated if they get so many signatures; it's vote chasing, simple as that. Give us some actual policies and let us make a decision!
