  1. We used one from Country Wide at Bairstowe Eves (we used the one in Kirkby in Ashfield but they have them at all their branches) and she was fantastic - sorted everything out for us, got us a really good deal, kept us informed all the time and was all free.

  4. Also try actually ringing some places - when I tried to get insured on my partners 2.0l Astra at 19 the lowest quote I got online was around £750 (most were about £1000) from Kwikfit, but when I rang them I got it down to around £500
  5. Need some advice on surveys: I am wanting to buy a house, built in 1925, and have had an offer accepted, and just had valuation done, no major problems reported in that. We are getting a mortgage for 95% of the cost, but we are getting a "together" mortgage with a loan to pay off my partners debts and reduce his monthly outgoings by half. Because of the amount he needs to borrow we need to get a mortgage of at least £75000. However, I now want to get a full survey done as it is quite an old house, but my partner doesn't think we should bother. His reasoning is that even if the survey reveals any major faults, we can't negotiate a lower price as he won't then get the full loan amount. Complicated I know, but does anyone have any advice? I still think a survey would be worth the expense as otherwise we don't know what we are getting into - he thinks if there are any major problems the insurance will over them, but I didn't think this would apply to existing problems which we didn't discover because we didn't have a survey? Aghhhh!! So frustrating. Buying a house is more and more expensive than I realised!!
  6. Hi all Have just bought a lovely house but with rather dated decor so we are going to have to redecorate everywhere. Being as we are going to have to rip out the whole bathroom we are thinking about putting in underfloor heating. So does anyone have it? Do you like it? And anybody installed it themselves as we would do that ourselves too! Thanks for any help!
  7. My friend and I spent the first few weeks of every term designing intricate calenders to count down the weeks, days and lessons left until the next holiday - and then we could spend each lesson intricately colouring that lesson's block in and know just how many we had left to go still!
  8. I live in Creswell at the moment - am renting here for 6 months after moving out of Sheffield. My OH grew up around the area and wasn't keen when we first saw the apartment here to rent but talked to some family in the area and they all told us it was improving. We had a look and really liked the apartment and didn't see any major problems - this is a village that is improving - lots of new houses being built, the model village has been renovated and had millions spent on it and looks pretty nice now. We've got a swimming pool, library, several pubs, co op, spar, post office, bingo hall, good transport links (rail station and buses) and lovely countryside all around. And Creswell crags!! So all in all, it's not a bad place to live: you do get the odd kid messing around, but have never encountered any serious problems. However, I suppose it does depend on which part of the village you are in. As has been mentioned, the main road (Elmton Road) is probably the best, there are smaller roads which are less nice.

Contact your local authority for more information. k the Valuation Office Agency may decide that part of your home is being used for business purposes and will adjust the rateable value of the property accordingly. This means that instead of just paying council tax, you will also pay business rates. Contact the Valuation Office on 020 7506 1700 or visit http://www.voa.gov.uk to find your local branch. k if you are renting, your tenancy agreement will probably forbid you from using your home as a business. Negotiating a change in the agreement will take time and could mean your rent will go up. k if you have a mortgage you may be prevented from running a business from your home. Check with your lender before you start.

  11. The council runs some sessions but they are at Don Valley Stadium which I realise isn't that close but is on tram route at least! They are on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings. Number to call is Don Valley Stadium on 0114 22 33 600. Also Steel City Gymnastics, Broadfield Rd, Sheffield, S8 0XQ 0114-258 1056 And there is a club at Wisewood Community Sports Centre - 0114 233 5457. Again a bit of a long way but on the tram. If you do find anything post it on here as I'm looking for a club to do some coaching training at on that side of the city!
  12. The only cheerleading I know of in Sheffield is in S12 area at Hackenthorpe - the panthers. They meet on Tuesday evenings and the head coach is called Miss TK Vincent - 07880535240 and email is [email protected] Hope this helps!
  13. I would still be interested in a group class - wherever and whenever. Have started dress and cut out the material but that is as far as I have got so far! Group lesson I enquired about was £5 per person per session.
  14. Your mum's made a great decision! We've rescued two greyhounds and they are the friendliest dogs you will ever come across. They also need a lot less exercise than most people imagine - because they are more sprinters than long distance they prefer a couple of short walks to one long trek - I have to practically carry Mack (the current one) home if we go more than about a mile!! Regarding cats they are suprisingly ok as well - although that is a lot more down to individual nature. Mack goes crazy trying to chase them (we don't cats any more), purely down to that instinct of "something furry, moving fast, must chase it!" but Jacky, who died 2 years ago, had no problems with them at all and she and our cat at the time lived alongside each other quite happily. It is quite strange rehoming a grey hound if it is straight out of racing - its like having a puppy but in a fully grown dog! Because they have often never lived in houses they aren't used to it - this brings advantages and disadvantages of course. Mack is completly unphased by the vacumn cleaner (to the extent that you have to hoover under him because he wont move!)- I don't know whether this is because he has never encountered one before or inspite of it. It also makes them fairly needy - having never been in a family before and been loved and petted when it happens they aren't good if it stops - so as for leaving a greyhound alone in a cage I certainly wouldn't and I know that our local greyhound trust wont rehome any where where there isn't somebody home during the day. Personal experience is that Mack has destroyed the kitchen door and doorframe by scratching at it and that was when he was left alone for 2 hours. When we left Jacky at my Grandmothers while we were on holiday she pined and wouldn't eat for days because she was distressed. Anyhow I'm rambling on a bit, but did just want to say that greyhounds make fantastic pets if you are willing to devote the time to them. Hope it all goes well!
  15. Have had some success - a lady called Joan Howson runs a class in Chapeltown. It's on Thursday evenings 7 - 9 at the Methodist Church on Nether Avenue, at the bottom of Burncross Road. It's an informal class - everyone is working on their own project and Joan helps out with everything. Cost is one night you pay £18 (cost of room hire) and other nights you pay £5 (ie everyone takes it in turn to pay cost of room hire). Haven't been along yet, but will be giving it a try.
