  1. I found the planning number which is 11/03972/FUL

Enter the reference number here to see details of the application - http://publicaccess.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/

There is also a lot more information on this site http://wincobankhill.btck.co.uk/SandstoneRoad

Thanks for that Nagel. The project comes up quickly on the public access site if you type in Sandstone as a key word. I think it was the second or third on the list.

  2. Bethsmummy it may not be too late if enough people sign so if you agree, please add your name to the petition.

There is going to be an event on the field across from the Jenkin road entrance tomorrow afternoon and I know the petition will be there.

Please don't let more of this beautiful site be lost to unnecessary housing.

  3. Please take a couple of minutes to read the petition on the link. The Council in their wisdom (??) are about to grant planning permission for more housing to be built on Wincobank Hill, which is an historic hillfort. The locals are really upset about this, as generally they feel that more houses are unwanted/un-needed in the area, especially not on this national treasure. If you agree, please please sign the online petition.

We need 2000 signatures by Monday.

    Thanks for 'listening'.

  4. Hillsborough Pumas under 11’s are looking to add up to an additional seven players for next season.

The team had a great season last year, winning a pre-season tournament followed by achieving promotion to the A division for next.

The club itself is committed to keeping children in this great game and to this end they’ve fully backed the changes for this age group by introducing a second team with the purpose of ensuring all kids get retained for next season.

If you think your child could play (and would want to) in the highest standard of league available, or if he/she has been released by their existing club, or they would like to try to get into a team then we’d love to see them at Hillsborough Arena between the hours of 6.00-7.00 for the following three Thursdays.

Also, if you think they might be nervous going into a different environment for the first time then drop me a PM and I’ll arrange for someone to meet them at the entrance to the arena.

If you require any further information then feel free to drop me a P.M

Just a quick update to this.

It does look like the second team will be formed now and the new player requirements for this team are particularly a need for an additional striker and midfielder (central or right).

So if you know of any kid that would like the chance to play up-front or in the middle of the park for an A division team, in the excellent facilities at Hillsborough Arena then drop me a P.M

    Thanks

  6. My 11 month old (giant) GSD has a lovely way of greeting me, he walks between my legs and stands still so that I can scratch his back. I'm 5'9 and have long legs, so it isn't a problem.

We were out watching my son play football recently, and there was a man with his back to us, talking to a group of other dads. For some reason, Arthur decided he would like to introduce himself to the man, and shoved his nose between his legs from behind. The man jumped a mile, and his face was a picture. Thankfully, he thought it was funny but I was absolutely mortified! I must admit though, I've had a few chuckles about it since.

  7. Go for it. All my female dogs have been spayed, the first two after their first season at the vet's recommendation at that time, and the third, more recently before her first season. I had my male GSD neutered at 6 months. I agree with Medusa's point that there are so many unwanted dogs around and it wouldn't be fair to risk more.

None of my dogs had anyy complications from their surgery, and i would guess this is the case for the vast majority of dogs.

  8. I've had my Kindle for about 18 months and wouldn't be without it. It's easy to download books, and simple to use. I also have a tablet with the kindle app. It's heavier to hold and harder to read. A colleague of mine has a cheaper version e-reader and everything seems so slow - page turning and downloading are more sluggish. There is no competition, Kindle wins hands down.

  9. I'm all for streaming children in accordance with their needs, but streaming and segregation are completely different things.

The excellent teachers would be snapped up in the schools with the 'good kids' from 'good families', leaving the poorer teachers to the more difficult schools, and your suggestion would just create a wider chasm between the 'good' and 'poor' schools.

All children deserve to be inspired by good teachers, not just the 'good' ones.

  10. You do realise why this is so?

Someone many years ago had the bright idea of taking poor kids from deprived areas and putting them on a bus to rich areas to go to school. Call it social mobility. Anyway these kids cause mass disruption to teaching and take up large amounts of time, leaving the good kids to suffer. Some of these good kids will always get top marks, but those who need a bit of a boot tend to suffer as all the time is took up with the other kids.

You can roughly equate a school's GCSE pass rate with the % of good kids from good families they get.

So what's your solution? Put all the 'good kids' together and all the 'other kids' in separate schools, and never the twain shall meet?

  11. I took my 13 year old son and 5 of his mates to the new Asylum paintballing on Scotland Street yesterday and they had a fantastic time - it was a brilliant 1st time experience for them all and they talked about it all the way home.

We got a great deal on kgbdeals which included 100 paintballs in with the offer, and at the bloke who runs it's advice, they all bought an extra 200 paintballs each (this averaged 50 balls per game), at a cost of another £14.32 each.

They started at 1.30pm and I picked them up at 4.30pm and they had 6 different games. The manager was really enthusiastic, and even my lad's incessant questions didn't worry him at all. I can't recommend them highly enough.

  12. They are also too chunky to actually 'choke' the dog.

I'm sorry but I think you should try to wear one before you can actually decide that. I've seen dogs with blue lips because they are still pulling with the choke chain on.

I suspect you are from the Barbara Woodhouse school of training. I'm with Lottie on this one.

  13. Final update. Arthur is now more than double Tilly's weight and height (he was 36 kilos at 6 months and still growing). They play together when out (on her terms) and they can be left together with no bloodshed.

I don't think they will ever be 'friends' but they are now living together in relative harmony. Phew!

  14. My 6 stone 7 month old GSD puppy was beginning to hurt my back on the way to his walk (he was brilliant on the way home though), and walks were beginning to get stressful for both of us. I considered buying a choke chain for all of 3 seconds - they just seem so cruel, and I couldn't let Arthur hurt himself that way.

A week ago I bought a Halti and our journey to the park has become a pleasure. He wasn't keen at first but quickly accepted it. I love it and wish I had bought it weeks ago.
