  1. Hello to all who read this. My 10 year old son is interested in paying football (he mostly plays in goal). He would really like to play for or at least train with a team. The problem I am having though is that as he did not get into football until he was 8, he was not already part of a team. I find that this is an issue. As he hasn't played for a team from a young enough age, he is finding it hard to play anywhere as they already have their team and are not interested in even considering any other players. I realise that this may be the wrong time of year to be looking for a team to play with, but any advice would be greaty appriciated (I have very little knowledge of football and how the seasons/teams/managers etc work)! Thanks

Hi I posted the attached thread which may be of interest depending on when your lad was born. Have a look and if he meets the criteria then drop me P.M and we'll arrange for him to come down to a training session.

  2. Hillsborough Pumas under 11’s Orange team are looking for players who must not be registered with any other Sheffield and District Junior Sunday league team.

We have only six games left this season, so as well as looking for players to finish this season, we are also really keen on giving all the lads who are interested an opportunity to have a proper chance to meet the other members of the team in time for next season.

By advertising now, we avoid the situation were managers, parents and lads only have a few weeks to make up their mind on registering for the team. We had this experience with lads last season, and it just isn’t long enough to have to make decisions on them.

Our intention is to have a 4-week break at the end of the season, then to train once a week and to enter pre-season competitions with all those attending given opportunity to participate in both.

We have two qualified coaches, we are currently in the A division (Green) league and currently train and play at Hillsborough Arena. Subs are £4 per week during the season and £1 out of the season.

So if your lad would like an opportunity to meet new friends, and to be given a proper opportunity to play for a team without the pressures involved with trialling then please drop me a P.M for more details.

Any lad who came down during the season and didn’t get into the team would be welcome again, as this time hopefully we’ll be able to give you plenty of time to get comfortable with the other lads.

Look forward to hearing from you.

  3. Hi

With the new season starting in a few weeks Hillsborough Pumas Orange team under 11's would like to arrange a few more friendlies before the start of the season.

If anyone can make it we have a pitch available this Monday at Hillsborough Arena for a 6.30 kick off.

Happy to travel away if anyone fancies a game.

Ring Andy on 07788805629 if interested

  4. For the forthcoming season the Sheffield Junior Football league are piloting a change to the format for the under 11 age group.

Instead of playing 11 a-side as what would normally happen, they will be playing 9 a-side with the objective of trying to improve the technique of the kids, as opposed to the physical requirements needed currently.

This will come in nationally the following season, so the league is to be commended for introducing it earlier.

In practical terms though what has happened is that (partly due to additional funding) a lot of existing teams have opted to have two teams next season, which in practical terms means they needed an additional 5 or more players.

The result of this is that a lot of clubs are struggling to find the players needed to get the team up and running, and this is a request for parents whose child might be looking for a team to contact the person identified in this thread.

Hopefully, clubs looking for players will submit their details on here and parents will then be able to contact them.

I know another thread exists in the Sport section, but I’d ask that Mods leave this on here as it reaches another audience in what is a very good cause.

For the record Hillsborough Pumas Orange team are after two more players (not goalkeepers) for next season.

We will be playing at Hillsborough Arena on a Sunday; we currently train on a Monday evening in Hillsborough Park with two F.A qualified coaches taking the lads.

Other key information for parents is the costing. During Pre-season it costs a pound a week which covers training and matches and when the season starts it is £4 per week which covers the pitch, registration, referee, training and kit (Orange and Black).

Thanks for reading, if there are any other clubs who might not be able to get a full team up then please let me know and we’ll consider taking some of their players on (and coaching staff if they wish) on 07788805629

  5. Hillsborough Pumas under 11’s Orange team still require a couple of players for next season.

The team is being coached by two qualified coaches, at the moment this is in Hillsborough Park on a Monday evening but it could well be moving to two sessions per week shortly.

The current players are a great bunch of lads who will make any newcomers very welcome.

They like to play a passing style of football, with an emphasis on enjoyment and winning by working together as a team.

We really would welcome a couple more players to make the squad complete, so if you think your lad would like to play in a team that is of a good standard and were they will get a chance to play then drop me a p.m or ring me on 07788805629.

  6. Hillsborough Pumas under 11's Black team require a couple of players to make up their team for next season.

We play at Hillsborough Arena on a Sunday morning, training is on a Monday evening in Hillsborough Park.

The team itself is shaping up into a great little team, all the lads are getting on well with each other and the team emphasis is on passing.

So if you'd like your lad to play in a great footballing arena, with a great bunch of lads who work together as a team then drop me a P.M or ring me on 07788805629.

  7. The following was posted on the Friends of Wincobank Hill Facebook page. Thanks must also go to Sheffield Forum members who, yet again, rallied around and contributed to the 1200+ (and still increasing) signatures on the online petition:

We are pleased to tell you that the application to build 24 houses on the Roman Ridge near Wincobank Hill Fort was refused.

The Ridge has been under threat in many places from development, vandalism and ignorance. However, we feel this changing. The Committee’s decision to refuse the planning application and preserv...e the open space after hearing the evidence from our campaign, the pleas of local residents and the over a thousand signatories to petitions, is an indication of this.

Many thanks to you all – your help and support has been greatly appreciated. The applicants have the right to appeal the decision. We will keep you informed of any developments and will most likely be calling on your help again!

  8. Anyway I wouldn't live in a house up there, its haunted by a hundred dead centurians...:suspect:

No Jack, many more than that. The hill is a devil to get up in the snow too. The houses just wouldn't sell ;)

Up to 682 signatures (and many more at the event on Wincobank Common yesterday) so one last push people please. :help:

  9. The people kicking up a fuss probably use the field the let their dogs defecate, or probably don;t use it at all.

If you had ever visited, you would know it isn't a field.

People use it as their right (of many hundreds of years) to walk freely around there, and appreciate its history and beauty. What is wrong with that?

There are plenty of places to build houses that wouldn't destroy areas of beauty.
